Olivier Désir: “Peelers Sellers” An Alternative Electronic Sound!

Mellow down and tune into Peelers Sellers, a music project of the Belgian composer and arranger Olivier Désir. In past projects, Olivier played alongside acts like Etienne De Crécy and Tom Middleton and performed warm-ups for bands like Royksopp and Air. Désir has made several collaborations, particularly with Samy Birnbach, vocalist of the mythic Minimal Compact. Recently, Désir arranged the forthcoming album of Michel Moers’ famous Belgian electropop trio.

Today, Olivier Désir takes on Peelers Sellers. This project has been compared to acts like Kraftwerk and a host of other influential 80’s bands by fans who took a listen to some of the breakout music. Some of these fans described the music as “funky and groovy,” “dark and obsessive,” and “really well-constructed.” The production quality along with the creative quality by Désir makes this project worth listening to.

The music of Peelers Sellers is reminiscent of 80’s electro-pop, especially when you listen to “Grand Tourism.” The synthesizer is hit with a detuned effect that makes for a wildly unique yet very minimalistic sound. The melody throughout the track flows easily and seems to take your ears into new territory. The atmosphere of the track may depress your mind and body, but the quality of the track along with the rhythmic beat, takes the song into a new direction. So you have two distinct sensations, simultaneously flowing through your aural senses, on listening to this.

Désir’s project is extremely new, meaning that the music available at the moment is very limited. The only other song available to listen to from the upcoming EP is “Ecliptic,” a track that sounds dark and dream-like. The droney sound of Peelers Sellers is alternative to many music styles nowadays, and it makes for an interesting and different kind of sound than you would usually hear from other contemporary electronic music artists.

What can you expect from Désir’s new project? Peelers Sellers has a trademark almost ethereal detuned sound in each song. If you’re a fan of the 80’s, you’re surely going to love the approach that Désir makes in Peelers Sellers. The debut EP from the new project is scheduled to be released in May 2013. The EP will be released on Crackling Claps Records within the next two months.

Lose yourself in the music of Peelers Sellers. The sound is just right for those who love to escape their minds and find some meaning in some new sounds. From the looks of it, we can expect Désir to create countless new songs and projects in the coming years. Keep up with Peelers Sellers and Olivier Désir online and be sure to look out for the new EP in May.
