Musicbyko: “Life In Element” – a melded perspective derived from a focused vision

Rap and hip-hop is no longer strictly about an artist’s lyrical ability, there is a series of beats and melodies that need to come together in perfect harmony to create the sonic excellence that fans demand to hear. This Bay Area rapper from Oakland, CA, has a message of ambition and a constitution of excellence that he is attempting to establish within his craft. It is clear that he has grown into more than just a

Love Ghost: “Scarlet Letter” – an at once compelling and distressful storyline

The scarlet letter is meant to be a symbol of shame, a stigma someone bears for a misdeed he or she has committed. The term often refers to public shame forced upon a person as a means of ostracizing him or her. Those branded with a scarlet letter feel the punitive vengeance of an unforgiving society. Instead it becomes a powerful symbol of identity, in the latest video of the song, “Scarlet Letter”, taken off the album “Lobotomy” by the Los Angeles alternative rock band, Love Ghost. The video tells the story of the band’s violist, Mya Greene and her

Vessel Decimal – “CONVERSION: Level One” guided by a sense of purpose

The appeal of Vessel Decimal – a band founded in Cleveland, Ohio in 2007 – lies in the sheer strength of the songwriting. Moreover there are powerful riffs, and you’ll get lost in the grooves, absorbing the punishing crush of the bottom end, but also reflecting on the narrative elements found on the brand new album, “CONVERSION: Level One”. Vessel Decimal are all about the balance found in the music, and the spiraling riffs that define their sound demonstrate that time and time again. It’s nice though that the band takes the time to back off, to allow you to

“I Don’t Want To Be A Celebrity” by Vs.Unleashed

The concept of Vs.Unleashed started in a small room in NY city, years ago when Aramis Alexander decided to go ahead and follow his passion for music. Since a little child, he had always been hearing his songs and melodies inside his head, so eventually he set on to find the best way to turn these words, ideas and sounds into actual song. Fortunately, technology got better and cheaper as the years went on, so he purchased the gear and computers that were available at the time. Not knowing anything about producing, Aramis did lots of research and learned the basics of music making.

Today he has recorded and produced some 30 songs on his own.  Vs.Unleashed’s influences are the 80’s rock and pop genres, but Aramis moves from classical to heavy-metal, as he reckons that what he does is not so much about a genre but just about good music, regardless of the genre.

Aramis chose the name(brand and logo) ‘Vs.Unleashed’ (against, opposing, rebel), for the simple reason that he realized that the way he is bringing this project about, is different than what one would expect on a music industry POV, for example, they won’t do any live performances in the beginning, instead they will try and produce a video for every song they launch.

To be honest, when you see a black man stand up and NOT blurt out a swaggering rap line, but instead he blows you away with a rock riff, you have no choice but to sit up and take notice! We’re so locked into stereotypes that when something like Vs.Unleashed comes along, our world just turns inside out and upside down. This gives Aramis an enormous advantage, in one swift action he has already captured our attention, now all he has to do is hold it there with music that counts!

So what exactly does Vs.Unleashed do, to hold the initial captivating advantage on would-be listeners?

First of all, how many artists out there can say that they have not had any other musical influences while writing their own music? Can you find me an artist that does not have music that reflects their influences? It is highly unlikely. Music is a source of inspiration, and influences. Musicians always have an influence and it will always be seen and heard through their craft. Vs.Unleashed follows suit in this obvious and common trait. If after hearing Vs.Unleashed, you are reminded of artists such as Michael Jackson, Prince, U2, the Rolling Stones or Duran Duran, remember it is a positive thing. To be in the same caliber of those artists is truly a compliment.

In fact “I Don’t Want To Be A Celebrity” by Vs.Unleashed encapsulates all the above-mentioned influences and more, and it is an impressive accomplishment indeed. The song is a rare example of timeless truths expressed in a modern day format, and Vs.Unleashed aka Aramis Alexander proves to be an extremely gifted man, playing all instruments, as well as writing and producing the song. He has also produced an eye-catching video to match!

Vs.Unleashed currently records and produces entirely in his room using Logic Pro. However with the ‘bigger sound’ ideas he has in mind for future songs, Aramis has currently turned to Indiegogo (you can find his project here )to help accumulate the funds which will allow him to record and produce with the help of a real orchestra and a professional studio, as well as make good quality videos for each song release.

Vs.Unleashed has the amazing ability to take elements of 80’s rock and make them sound completely modern. This guy is capable of doing it all, from the music to the lyrics and his serving it up in a completely different way than we’re accustomed to. So let’s start giving the man his due, grab the songs and support his project on Indiegogo too!
