A few months back when we reviewed emerging Brisbane singer-songwriter, Erica Bronwyn’s debut album, Metamorphosis our conclusion was that you wait a decade between albums like this one. The tracks that emerged from Erica’s collective experiences brought us face to face with stunning music and a beautiful young woman in a world of poetic beauty.
“Hear Me Calling” is the second single released from the album, and once again we savor Bronwyn singing from beyond her deep and unveiled emotional conviction. I know I’ve said this before on listening to the album, but I have to repeat myself. She is one of those artists that come into your life, grabbing your intellect and emotions. On Metamorphosis I was swept away, and “Hear Me Calling” together with “Butterfly” played a big role in capturing my attention.
Release after release, Bronwyn confirms she is a truly gifted artist who can phrase a lyric with incredible tenderness yet belt it out with the best of them. On “Hear Me Calling” she does both…rather convincingly.
Metamorphosis is an appropriate title for the album as it reflects personal and musical changes almost serving as a challenge to Bronwyn’s audience. In fact the sound change from the soft and ethereal “Butterfly” to the power pop build-ups of “Hear Me Calling” perfectly showcases Bronwyn’s transmuting capabilities.
“Hear Me Calling” is one of those songs that transcends all genres of music. Bronwyn’s voice is stellar and passionate, the production is top-notch, and the song is well-crafted; which makes the whole package fresh, authentic, as well as musically incredible.
However Erica Bronwyn and her team have exceeded my expectations by also producing a creatively inspirational supporting video which is currently available for viewing on YouTube.
What is so great about Bronwyn’s music is that the sounds are distinct. You know what song you’re listening to even if it’s in the background. And lyrically it is so powerful too. At first glance, Bronwyn’s music may not seem any different than most other mainstream pop female artists, but her lyrics are richer and her attitude is more thought-provoking, than the in your face sexier-than-thou divas.
“Hear Me Calling” has a contemplative feel to open the song leading to an explosive chorus which will have you hanging on every note. All told, this single is a five-star stunner, and so is the video. Don’t miss it!
