‘Mind Open’ is the first official full-length album, solo release written and produced by TRZ. From his roots as one of Hip Hop’s most prolific independent artists and co-founder/producer for the group The Souljah Clique. His debut album features guest vocals from artist George Clinton, live guitar by ‘Big In Lights’ producer Brock Freeway and additional vocals from debut singer/songwriter Aisha. The album was Mastered by world-renowned engineers Kenny Mixx (known for his work with artists like Rick Ross, Kanye West & Outkast) and Russell Kearney (best known for his work with artists such as Massive Attack, Jamiroquai & Peter Gabriel).
TRZ is talented and funky – and he doesn’t seem to be pretentious about it, which is a good thing. The result of his blend of neo-soul and hiphop is a splendid 13-track album. This album is good from start to finish, but there are always highlights along the way, like “Put a Hump in Ya Back (feat. George Clinton)”, “What She Wants (feat. Aisha)”, “Open Your Mind”, “Blame The Bizness”, “Mind Open” and “You Look so Good (feat. Aisha)”.
TRZ’s music gives you that same good vibe feeling that 70’s funky soul music does.He has literally rescued us from the typical, ordinary, predictable, average, run of the mill, garden variety of hiphop; infusing it with enough soul and funk to bump your rump into the groove.
‘Mind Open’ really is tight and it comes with a lot of originality and creativity (he likes to spell out things) that we don’t to hear very often. Now you guys know you are tired of the “blinging, riding with my dawgs” type cuts, which get played in overdrive on the radio. TRZ puts the classic, tongue-in-cheek Brit twist into these themes that just makes you feel good.
You’ll be instantly ‘feeling’ this album, the very first time you hear it. ‘Mind Open’ is definitely a must-have. Anytime you want to mellow out, chill, get your groove on or just listen to some really good hip-hop music that you can actually sing-along to, this is the choice.
TRZ’s style and flavor pulled me in with no resistance on my behalf. His love for music shines through on every song. I am looking forward to anything he will be putting out in the future.
