Rahul Mukerji: “Ma De Re Sha” balances the obtuse with the accessible!

Rahul Mukerji is a ‘guitarist’s guitarist’ who revels in a self-penned musical hybrid shot through with intensity, precision and plenty of ethnic flavorings. His 11 track album “Ma De Re Sha” is a big sounding recording with enough of twists and turns to make Rahul’s solos sound both dynamic and interesting. The opening track “Exit 13” sets the outline tones of this collection of songs. It balances lyrical eclecticism with an Indian twist while his incredible chops help him forge his own style. There are plenty of incendiary guitar breaks and harmony guitar parts, but Rahul also demonstrates a lightness of

Triple threat alternative rock artist Zachary Ray

Born in Rhode Island, Zachary Ray is a Danish/American musician residing in Los Angeles. He was introduced to Metallica and Eminem at age 5, by his mother and stepfather, and became wildly obsessed with drumming. Hence his grandma from Rhode Island gave him his first drum set. Ray later took drum lessons and eventually also learned to play the guitar. This was followed by singing, which gave Zachary Ray the musical combination to perform and record with absolute artistic freedom. His latest release, is the single ”Trouble”. How long have you been performing and recording, and did you record or

Nega Blast X: “The Experiment” – this caliber and artistic conviction is required for this art to evolve

There’s really no words to describe the sound of Nega Blast X. The Burbank music arranger, author and digital artist, Dominic R Daniels, sole proprietor of the Nega Blast X project, is in a realm of his own and hardly many can touch that artsy creativity he has under the hood. Based in the trance, techno and industrial idioms since 2010, Daniels is inspired by Daft Punk, Orbital, My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult and The Mutaytor. “The Experiment”, Nega Blast X’s third album is released on Amazon, Spotify, iTunes, and all other major digital download stores. Artistically speaking, Nega

Tisabel: “GENRE HOPPING” bristles with energy and artistic audacity

Longtime Musical director and vocalist Tony Isabel aka Tisabel boasts an unprecedented skill set. He writes, arranges, sings, plays, and performs. He busts taboos, flashes unstoppable ambition, blends genres together like paint. Soulful ballads and funky grooves, ambient new age soundscapes, Hip-hop fantasy, and divine EDM devotion. For these qualities alone, he deserves respect. However, as you know, respect is also kind of a bullshit concept. Your favorite songs may not grace anyone else’s mixes; your favorite artists may not have ever left town. A century of recorded music has given us a galaxy of worthy tunes. But the gravitational

Lee Lee Lanea: “Basswhipped” resonates gloriously

Beats aren’t gendered. So why are we still in the dark ages when it comes to gender equality in the music studio? Women represent less than 5% of music producers and engineers. Yes, the music industry—like every industry on this patriarchal planet—is sexist. That is not news. But this means we’re missing out on a whole world of sounds, stories, and perspectives. Our culture has systematically ingrained this idea that technology is more of a man’s thing. Then of course there’s the fact that most men get freaked out when women do things better than them or even as good

Mobb Boss: “Lil Lady” – the depth, perspective and hunger of a performer

Being respected, revered and admired as an emcee is what often elevates a rapper from being one who merely strings together words that rhyme into an appreciated lyricist of the highest order. However, while there are a long string of spitters and scribes that have come along, the elite few who have found themselves mentioned in conversations and debates when discussing quality artists, have one thing in common: a track record of consistently delivering music that make the most of their lyrical abilities and serve as a piece of themselves. When speaking of today’s pack of underground orators, Mobb Boss

Pastor Peter Unger Releases New Single “The Memories of God”

NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE, USA — Peter wrote this song for the older people, who he had the honor and privilege of ministering to over many years. Pete explained that many had a humble, kind, and appreciative dignity; qualities born of a long life shaped by faith and wisdom. Most were to experience the debilitating effects of age, including mental decline and dementia. During visits he struggled and prayed with them through the inevitable spiritual and emotional valleys of such a decline. He further explained that those, for whom faith and a personal relationship with God most defined what it meant to

Sequential Music radically distinguishes itself from conventional music

Various Artists: Compiled By Klis – ‘Sequential Music: An Alternative Approach For Experimental Minds’

These 10 compositions featured on the Micro Spiral Recordings compilation album, Various Artists: Compiled By Klis – ‘Sequential Music: An Alternative Approach For Experimental Minds’ – available via the Micro Spiral Store – is an experimental  and avant-garde electronic compilation of  tracks created using the ‘Sequential Music’ method – ‘a musical composition where the instruments are played one after the other in a serial fashion’.

sequential-music-logo‘Sequential Music’ showcases the creative talents of artists such as Freethos, Glass Ark Maniac, Kin;Aesthetic, Kills, Delta, The Unknown Stuntman, Scaling As Karma, Delicasession and Klis, as they delve in the processes of sampling, programming and performance, injecting a genre-defying spectrum of influences into the music.

It was during 2011, that Edward De Bono’s book ‘Po’ and Steve Spacek’s album ‘Black Pocket’, inspired the experimental musician, Klis, to create a new and alternative method for writing songs. According to its inventor, Klis, the Sequential Music Method has 10 predominant composing guidelines, of which I will only mention the 3 which most aroused my curiosity, and radically distinguishes itself from conventional music composition:

  • An instrument must fully conclude playing (including any effects such as a delay) before the next instrument is employed.
  • Elements of a drum kit are considered to be individual instruments in this instance. This would mean that a snare would be one instrument as would a kick drum.
  • Elements such as harmony, chord progression, verse / chorus do not need to be adhered to in this context.

It was with these elements in mind that I proceeded, rather timidly, to listen to the works contained within the album – fearing the absolute worst; incoherent and boring, dissonant computer-generated noise. I was rather surprised, though to be honest, it took me a while to warm up to ‘Sequential Music: An Alternative Approach For Experimental Minds’. It bursts with color and controlled energy as the compositions perfectly resist the urge to build themselves into traditional song structures but get far enough to where you are left with an impression of a song, and know that it could be, but the artists don’t want it to be! The elements are all there, the rhythm, the sounds, the machinery we are so familiar with but instead we are given music that we immediately connect with but are absolutely certain we have never experienced before. At least I have not!

I will not mention standout tracks or personal favorites as this is an unconventional album you will need to experience first-hand, for yourself. Suffice to say that it’s engaging and yet perplexing at the same time, but never ignorable, as well as being quite emotional in some parts.

And that is what any piece of valid art is primarily meant to do in my book – emote, regardless of how that sentiment is propagated. I couldn’t care less if one instrument is played after another, or if each piece of the drum-kit is treated as an individual instrument! Does it move me? Does it inspire me? Does it challenge me? Yes, yes…and yes!

The 10 tracks on this album certainly present an eclectic listen for the uninitiated, but everything is so well-spliced together and thought provoking that you cannot help but enjoy it.

Like most, I come from a conventional music background and found the approach to music making on this album incredibly unique and totally beguiling. Prior to this experience I was not aware of the methods behind how this music was actually being made, and I think that was part of its appeal. After listening to Various Artists: Compiled By Klis – ‘Sequential Music: An Alternative Approach For Experimental Minds’, I just felt completely immersed in its abstract psyche-penetrating ambience. Much the same will probably happen to you…
