Nika Starr: “Connection” – succinct, sassy, and sincere

Nika Starr, female Soul/RnB singer from Toronto, is currently working with her mentor DT the Artist for Artist Development from the ‘Ground Up Program’. Her latest single is “Connection” which was produced by ClevaMix Records with an instrumental from ShamGodBeats. Being a woman in a male-dominated music industry, means they always want to back you into a corner and force you to wear a label. Unfortunately, that means you either fall into one of two categories: sexy or cute, and maybe lust or love. Now more than ever people need to be reminded that women can be in more than

Liam Merrigan: “Broke Beyond Tomorrow” – a high sense of life and perception

Liam Merrigan is 29 year old singer-songwriter from Kintbury Berkshire UK. The 10 track album of original songs, “Broke Beyond Tomorrow” deals with Liam life experiences – either lived first hand or witnessed. I enjoyed the intimate nature of the recording, which sounds as if Merrigan was playing a beat old guitar on a stool 10 feet in front of you. Totally stripped down, this album demonstrates the great craft of the songs, as well as Liam’s expressive voice, and of course his acoustic guitar. Liam is the English equivalent of rejuvenated Neil Young in his observational skills. Etop: “Masterworks” is ground-breaking and innovative

Etop is not your typical electronic artist. If someone says to you that Etop plays electronic music do not go thinking that he plays heavy beats and dance songs. Well he does, but not quite the way you’re thinking. Etop is everywhere. He can go to a bubblegum electronic pop tune, to a groovy dance song, all the way over to a depressing ballad. And then he can do something better than just about anyone else…go back in time. No, this is not another installment of Return To The Future. He really goes back to the past, and out of

Moorhouse: “I Love You to the Moon and Back” ft. The Cellophane Heart – brings a new slant to the genre

Irish DJ and producer Moorhouse has dedicated the song, “I Love You to the Moon and Back”, to his daughter, Abbie. It speaks about their relationship and what the future holds. Canadian artist, The Cellophane Heart, provided the vocals for the track, and the song was produced in Moorhouse’s home studio in Waterford, Ireland. The track offers a lively, upbeat 90s dance pop sound mixed with current top 40 influences from Baz Luhrmann and N-Trance. This track means a lot. And there is a reason for that. Sure, it may be electronic dance music, but it’s…different. EDM music is becoming

Blakemore: “Revelator” is without a doubt, an instant classic

Blakemore is a 3 piece mechanized rock band from Nashville, TN. Equipped with an array of manipulated guitar fx pedals, a female bassist, and a theatrical avant-garde style; Blakemore breathes dramatic new life into the rock n roll corpse. Their latest single “Revelator” kicks off with a bang – it’s heavy, it’s dramatic, at times beautiful. Moreover it’s big, it’s over the top, and it has motivational lyrics that would pump up most listeners. Blakemore fuse all of this with entrancing harmonies and a lush, but hard-hitting instrumental, but still allowing lead singer Michael Blakemore (Lead Guitar, Vocals, Noise) to soar above it all. The band has definitely done something amazing here and created a track that will cement their status in the rock world.

“Revelator” is heavy, there is no doubt about that, but there’s an element of experimentation that works incredibly well. When the first bars of the track crashes in with that typical crunching guitar, you know this is going to be a great song.

Apart from the vocals which could hardly be better, what really stands out in the arrangement is the infectious and groovy bass line executed by Julia Blakemore (Bass & Rhythm Guitar, Vocals), which permeates throughout the song and creates a rhythmic vibe you can really immerse yourself into. Blakemore demonstrates the right blend of heavy infectious guitar riffs, and bass lines complemented with perfect drums and intense aggression.

The guitars also add a certain level of thought provoking tonal shifts, while the Michael also uses a lot of rasping and melodic transitions with his voice. These elements bleed together in one continuous euphoric musical experience. It’s not often that I hear a track that I have found no flaws in, but “Revelator” is absolutely flawless from start to finish.

Believe me, I’ve tried to find faults, but there are none. From the songwriting, to the instrumentation and singing, right through to the production, mixing and mastering. “Revelator” is without a doubt, an instant classic. This could definitely be a springboard towards catapulting the band to a successful status. It proves that they are capable of pulling off anything they try.

Swinging between light to heavy crescendos and loud dynamics, “Revelator” is a striking example of the band’s impressive scale of originality and creativity, as they deliver raw power, and a blend of aggression and sheer energy within galloping riffing. All in All, this track is just a glimpse of what you can expect from Blakemore but it already paints vivid images in your mind.

And though, “Revelator” is one of their best efforts to date, checkout their other stunning singles, such as “#AmericanIdol” and “Pushing Daisies” to grasp the vastness of their artistic reach. All the band’s songs are utterly anthemic and radio-ready. It’s hard to believe that Blakemore are not yet a household name in the alternative rock world.
