Mind Over Matter – “Human” is near perfect in execution and direction

Three years ago, and after 100 concerts and international attention, Peter Scherfig (guitarist) and Armin Kavousi (lead singer) parted ways with the project SuitsBLVD to create what now is Mind Over Matter. Three years in the studio, collaborating with new producers and talented musicians – both in Denmark and in England – has resulted in their cinematic nu-rock / metal album entitled “Human”.  The band is planning a sonic revolution: “The purpose of the music is to spread a message of collective consciousness and ‘Mind over Matter’ to the next generation. The message is to deal with old norms and

D Williams – “California” – precision-driven songwriting, and a sort of deceptive minimalism!

LD Williams is one of those authentic modern day troubadours. The London based artist writes all his own Indie Pop & Soul songs, and records them at home on an iPhone. Influenced by music from the 60’s through to the 90’s with a Britpop flavor, the singer-songwriter is fresh on the block and building his catalog.  Williams’ music doesn’t possess the immediacy that one would expect from the usual pop fodder. Take his double-sided single “California”, which consists of the songs, “California” & “I’ll Promise You This”. The bedroom production is understated; the core guitar riffs, a fluttery, jangly thing;

Lady Bain relies on solid song-craft and musical arranging that allows her voice room to breathe

Let’s start by saying that Lady Bain is a true songstress with deep expression and a vocal range that is out of this world. She is unlikely ever to be pigeonholed with the seemingly never-ending mother-lode of cloned pop R&B singers, but has instead carved a veritable niche in slick, adult, soul grooves. Adult, not in the sense of being rude about sex, but adult in the sense of sounding worldly wise and experienced about relationships, hardships and love. Lady Bain relies on solid song-craft and musical arranging that allows her voice, never overstated, room to breathe. Her confidence is

Emerald Suspension is set to release the EP “Eruptions” on the 4th of March 2020

The band Emerald Suspension recently debated about the best guitar solo in the world. That discussion ignited a plan to create a single to be titled ‘Eruption’. Inspired by the Eddie Van Halen guitar solo of the same name, there is no mistaking the two. In the meantime, other tracks came together, with and without guitars. So now the release is ‘Eruptions’, an EP with six nifty tracks. ‘Eruptions’ features an unconventional mix of guitar, percussion, vocals, samples, noise, effects, and DIY instruments. The unique works range from noise to alt-rock to an orchestral ballad (of sorts). ‘Eruptions’ with different

Star Trek Picard Martial Arts Dance Video Starring Ben Ryan Metzger

Believeland musical artist Ben Ryan Metzger has released his new martial arts dance music video for Star Trek Picard. Ben wrote, composed, and performed all the vocals on this incredibly inspirational pop rock opera track inspired by the legendary Sir Patrick Stewart, master engineered by 13 time Grammy Winner Mike Makowski, and produced by Space Jam Slam phenom Chris Adams. With deeply powerful vocals and soaring high falsettos Ben showcases his amazing voice reminiscent of Elvis Presley and Andrea Bocelli engaging into maximum warp with an Axel Rose flare. Often compared to Michael Jackson and Bruce Lee, Ben strives to

Love Ghost – “Dead Brother”- a fresh new synthesis!

L.A. based rock band Love Ghost, are back with a brand new single entitled “Dead Brother” (release date January 24th). The accompanying music video (which was shot by Rob Zombie’s camera operator Hassan Abdul-Wahid, and directed by acclaimed horror actor Jeff Daniel Phillips) has already won Best Music Video awards at 3 international film festivals. Dark. Theatrical. Ambitious. These are the words that immediately come to mind when describing Love Ghost’s newest release, and they’re the words that make it so unique in their discography. “Dead Brother” takes the quintet’s tried-and-true sound and offers a more complex and DARKER take

Bruce Engler – “Not You & Me” will make an instant impression on thoughtful music listeners

Now recording his 3rd solo release, “Not You & Me” is the first single from the upcoming 2020 album by Bruce Engler. If you’re looking for good music, then look no further. This track has all the things you want to hear that you don’t get much nowadays in the pop-rock market. Melody, harmony, conscious lyrics, and captivating vocals. Engler also stretches his chunky and atmospheric guitar textures and branches out into snippets of adventurous lead playing. Used to so much shallow infantile-styled recordings of late, I was unprepared for the extremely personal and moving adult orientated material contained within

C0MBINE – “Duetz” – emotional, infectious melodies while keeping it lyrical

Northwest-based artist, rapper, and musician, C0MBINE, formerly known as Lone Seeker 777, started out his creative career in 2014 writing the song “I’ll Never Forget” in a junior talent show. He has since built upon that initial foray, raising the bar on each subsequent release – the single “K1ck It”, then the album “Rise”, followed by “Christian Girl” in 2018. The fruit of his endeavors though, started to truly come to the fore with the release of his double-sided single “Duetz” in November 2019, which was positively received by fans and critics alike. Beautiful instrumentals and thought provoking lyrics drive

Shehzad Bhanji: “Profound Beginnings” – a strong sense of melody

As far as guitarists go, Shehzad Bhanji is a master of his craft. While not quite as well-known as some of his contemporaries (Steve Vai and Joe Satriani come to mind in his field) he’s more than proven himself on his previous 2016 album –  “Never Say Goodbye”. His latest album – “Profound Beginnings” – is completely instrumental and reminiscent of the material on the previous album. So if you enjoyed that one, you’ll certainly adore this one. If you haven’t yet heard “Never Say Goodbye”, I urge you to do that to. This will give you a better understanding of the subtle progression in Bhanji’s music.

Perhaps what is most striking about this release is Shehzad Bhanji’s  even stronger sense of melody. While this was also clearly evident on his previous work, the focus on melody is considerably more noticeable here, and is really what sets Bhanji apart from the pack of metal shredders. Shehzad Bhanji’s playing also dispels the myth that instrumental guitar rock lacks emotion and is all about speed shredding.

Every song on this release displays a depth of emotion and a genuine love of the guitar. Each song brings a little something different to the table so you will hear plenty of melodic lines; bone-hard riffing and explosive shredding too. But each is delivered in easily consumable doses, and do not numb the aural senses as much as captivate them.

“Profound Beginnings” features some excellent multi-tracking and the production in general is of an extremely high quality all-round. Its audio engravings are unsurprisingly all composed by Shehzad Bhanji himself. His guitar is seated right at the forefront of the mix, enjoying a prestigious clarity and power, backed luscious bass, drums, pianos and tones of electronic sounds too.

The omniscient presence on this album though, goes to the prodigious playing of Bhanji, his inventive riffs and streaming solos clearly propelling the music. And more than that, it sounds huge, especially for a solo guitar record. On my first listen I was blown away by its cavernous sound; it’s a mighty behemoth of depth.

Producer Bhanji and the studio crew at Shehzad Bhanji Studio Qatar and Songbuilder Studios (USA), have done a fantastic job of recording this, while the mixing by Nate Lanzino and the mastering by Stephan Antonelli is superb too.

The proof of all the above though, is in the pudding, so to speak, and it’s precisely the opening track of the album “Till We Meet Again”, which is also offered as a FREE download on Bhanji’s Soundcloud profile. The song opens with a cinematic darkwave intro before exploding into a fiery guitar rocker driven to soaring heights by Bhanji’s Gibson.

From that moment onward Bhanji takes the listener on melodic and dynamic electric guitar journey that has moments of delicate introspection, as on “Straight From the Heart” and “Meaning of Love”, or the sheer rock ecstasy on “Without You”. In between there are sprawling melodic moments like “Crazy In Love” and “Midnight in Doha”, as well as crunchy adrenaline pumpers such as “Steal You Away”.

This album is rife with excellence, germinating with quality, a sublime composition of symphonic ingenuity. You will hear sets of percussive power chords that subsequently muscles along through a multitude of musical passages, at times evoking the mysticism of Eastern music, at others the grass-nibbling rawness of American Blues-based rock.

It’s the perfect example of that ability to change course mid-song, mid-riff, mid-note that Shehzad Bhanji imbues into his music. The songs drag you through its residence, allowing just enough time to succulently indulge in each room’s sonorous charm, before hauling you off to see what the next doorway has in store.
