FuzzKill – “The Get Better” reaches all the expected heights!

FuzzKill is a four-piece rock band that started in Boston, MA. Introduced to one another through musical theatre, the band’s sound is firmly rooted in early 2000’s pop-punk influences. They released their debut studio album, “Happen”, in early 2019, and their sophomore album, “The Get Better”, just dropped on September 19th 2020. We have all heard the biggest punk bands of the 90’s and early 00’s. Their music mainly consisted of driving drums, distorted pop-punk guitar work and a set of memorable lyrics to go with the angst-filled high energy vocals. Today punk bands are a rarity, and any good

There’s a lot to appreciate on the new album, and Dan’s voice is arguably the most attractive aspect. Moreover, his vocals are often enhanced by inspiring songwriting and raw emotion, not to mention a wealth of down to earth acoustic guitar strumming. Dan Friese has an organic,

Hitrocker – “Project One” – breathtaking sound design!

Hitrocker is a German based producer who creates mainly within the EDM subgenres of House, Electro and Deep House. His first album, entitled “Project One” was released at the end of July, while “Project Two” is also out now. When I clicked on the playlist of “Project One”, I was met with song titles that were merely numbers – such as “Project 1.1” or “Project One.Four”. This falsely led me to expect generically themed instrumentals, simply meant to rock the dancefloor. Wrong. Well not totally. They do rock the dancefloor. But they also do a whole lot more. These are

Billy Ray Rock – “Get The Funk”- hitting up all the classic tenets of funk

Washington State Singer-Bassist, Billy Ray Rock, plays more than 10 instruments and produces and performs every instrument you hear in his music. From Rock to R&B and Dance, Billy delivers them all. His single “Get The Funk”, simply adds another delicious flavor to his sonic menu. His unearthly bass chops, resonant vocal wobble and inner funk DNA is scorching hot, while it straddles the genre’s trademark grooves. Blaring horns and slapping drums accompanies the party-styled adlibs, as the track treads its momentum. If you’re looking the glossy high-tech dance-club funk perpetuated by bands like Chromeo, then this is not the

Vincent Krennerich – “Verlassene Stadt” – plenty of delicate aural color

Vincent Krennerich is a composer, songwriter and pianist from Germany. The artist, who has featured on our pages before, has released his double-side single, entitled, “Verlassene Stadt”, which translated, would mean ‘abandoned city’. The second track, contained in this set, is called “Morgengrauen”, which in English, would mean ‘dawn’. However if you heard these compositions, there would be no need to translate them, as Krennerich’s music describes itself rather poignantly. Though stripped back and basic solo piano, the key to the success of both these recordings, is the propensity Vincent Krennerich has in composing subtly fine melodies. Both tracks have

Out of Aotearoa (New Zealand), Hybrid Blues are a 4-piece band, made up of Mike Everard (guitars, vocals), Adam Pendred (bass), Mark Schaumann (drums) and award winning front-man, singer-songwriter Roy Hudson. The record not only showcases Roy’s abilities as a singer and a songwriter, but also highlights the wide range of influences that have impacted on his music. The album takes you in so many different dynamic directions that it can feel a little dizzying, while the

Marshall Artz Productionz work should gain high appraisal through its colorful and subtly amped vibes that play to any genre lover’s ears alike. After listening to this track, I expect that the outpouring of demand for more of the

Evie Calabasas – “STARGIRL” – strong, sensitive vocals and soul-baring songs

Evie Calabasas is a 20 year-old singer and songwriter. She started playing guitar at the age of 6 and started singing at 15 years old. After attempting to be part of band on numerous occasions, Evie finally opted for a solo career. Her first solo project, the 3 track EP “STARGIRL”, has its title inspired by the first song she ever played live.  It is a tempered and exceptional record. It shakes, rattles and rolls with minimal, almost absent percussion, a dominantly strummed acoustic guitar and occasional keyboard interludes. Above all, is Evie Calabasas’ voice, which delivers an untethered, sweetly

Nava: “Now(here);” – truly delivers both vocally and melodically

Pranava Maharaj, who goes by stage name Nava, is an independent R&B artist & producer based in Trinidad and Tobago. At eleven years old, Nava won a music competition and his career continued to skyrocket from there. After catching the attention of Soca superstar Machel Montano, Nava toured all over the world with Montano, performing at places such as Radio City Music Hall in New York and the Crop Over Festival in Barbados. He collaborated with Montano on the Soca hit “Festival” in 2015 and performed at the Trinidad Carnival. Nava has since been experimenting with his sound and has worked with other Trinidadian urban artists Kaz and Freshmxn.

He has also put out a few singles, two of which are featured on his latest release. Nava’s 6 track project “Now(here);” has finally arrived and is nothing less than stunning comfortably fitting into the modern electronic driven urban sound.

“Now(here);” is a breath of fresh air with all of the low quality R&B music that’s on the radio waves now. Nava truly delivers both vocally and melodically. He perfectly binds his electro R&B sound with more adventurous melodies and instrumentation. You will flat out love it.

Nava’s flawless vocals and the silky smooth vibe put this one in the conversation for best R&B EP of 2018. The album itself is more about progression than imitation. Right from the haunting opening track, “Are You?”, Nava is fiery and flamboyant, quickly establishing himself as one-man entertainment powerhouse, building verses of provocative allusions and enviable choruses.

Layering contemporary musicality over time-honored narratives on “Alright” and “Blind”, he sifts through the facets of the human experience, elucidating the personal, the relational and the sublime.

From the self-possessed inebriation of “Right One”, to the sensual falsetto of “This Way”, and the sultry heartbreaker “Pon Road”, Nava demonstrates the factors that will endear him to fans and make this recording so highly sought after: personality and prowess.

The soulful stars have aligned, and the rhythmic gods have showed up on this recording. For those skeptical as to whether this melodic miracle actually happens, it does!

Awe-inspiring for his incredible vocal range and impeccable songwriting skills – true to form, Nava shows all of it on this recording. He has embarked on a musical voyage with “Now(here);” in a vessel designed for him to steer.

In a wondrous sonic hybrid of production techniques, he shifts gears through weaving lyrics of doubt and affirmation, buoyed by the overtones of his mellifluous vocal style. All contributing to the superb fabric of this EP. This is a vibrant portrait of an artist on a quest to cultivate a creative statement as an individual.

In the undercurrent, “Now(here);” seems to address the need, the desire, and the difficulty to have someone who compliments you spiritually, emotionally, intellectually and physically, and it is quite the groove, with its emotional turbulence.

Nava’s dizzying vocal range is unfurled to its full potential throughout. But what he doesn’t lack – refinement, charisma and finely-honed musicianship – is what will satisfy fans’ palettes more than anything else. As the EP slides into heavy rotation, it will leave everyone anticipating what the man will serve up next.
