Franco Esteve: “The Hunt” – a backdrop to life itself

Plastic DJ: “Giving Up” – Truly euphoric, refreshing and atmospheric!

The album “Giving Up” by Barcelona-based producer and singer Plastic DJ, is the very best that the blended genres of Deep House, Downtempo and Electro have to offer. The thing that sets Plastic DJ so far above his contemporaries is that he’s genuinely talented as a musical composer, and stunningly enchanting as a singer. The music is of a baroque complexity, and here’s no overpowering bass or wailing synths. It’s like listening to a dream. You’ll play this in your car when you want to relax, at home when you’re at the beach or sitting on the porch, or as

Gospel, soul and R&B were always playing in the house or being sung by my father who was also a singer and he loved Stevie Wonder, Otis Redding, Donny Hathaway, etc. One of the first songs I ever learned how to REALLY train singing along to was “A Song For You” by Donny Hathaway.

DAV!D&CLARA: “Repair” – rugged and intense!

The man and machine duo of DAV!D (David Castillo) and his computer CLARA, better known as DAV!D&CLARA, are back with a new single in 2019, called “Repair”. The track is taken from the upcoming album, “CONFESSIONS OF THE MACHINE” to be released early 2020. Much of this latest single displays a minimalist, almost survivalist element, as if every movement, gesture, and note is conserved and used for maximum effect. DAV!D’s songwriting principle seems to be “less is more”, a sentiment CLARA seems to adhere to perfectly. Together they have an artistic sensibility that’s far from common. The song is based

MartynGBuckets: “Real Life Rockstar” – a perfect cultivation of the rock star aesthetic

MartynGBuckets is like a cross between Young Thug and Future, allowing him to take his music to places other trap rappers would not think to venture toward like his first single “Peso$” and his other recent releases “2 Glock$” and “Vlone4Life”. His effects-filled vocals allow him to make convincing bass rattling anthems. MartynGBuckets’ latest single release, “Real Life Rockstar” produced by Mike Hard, is a certified banger, with its maudlin, off-kilter arpeggiated beat, and its shade of melancholy is a tantalizing way of preventing it from being just a simple club track. MartynGBuckets actually sounds inspired when he’s belting out the lyrics here. Everything about the song clicks, even the peak mumble action at the end of the verses. MartynGBuckets sounds like he’s melting into the track with his hypnotic auto-tuned slurs.

MartynGBuckets is great at spontaneity. His mic presence is captivating and energetic, his style is unpredictable, and his songs can give the impression that they were recorded in one take in the heat of the moment, which is extremely attractive to the ear. The song’s production is spellbinding, filled with emotive moans and elegiac keys, and MartynGBuckets uses it to forge his technical gymnastics.

He blends his flair and experimentation to prove he’s a rapper who can flow with the best of the new breed of new age rappers, purposely tangling his words to fit them all into a stanza. It feels more like a freestyle with a chorus shoehorned in to perfectly sustain its runtime. And it works perfectly.

If Lil Wayne caterwauled his way to hip-hop rock stardom in the early 2000s, then MartynGBuckets is the next evolution of the rockstar-rapper trope. “Real Life Rockstar”, makes a concerted effort to expand on this narrative, ultimately positioning the Philadelphia creative as a potential high-flying artist on the underground scene.

Worshipping at the temple of opulence, between pussy and money, MartynGBuckets’ unpredictable delivery and natural penchant for entertaining, never becomes stale, in contrast to some of his peers. In truth, left-field singles like “Real Life Rockstar”, only contribute to his growing mystique.

The verses wouldn’t intuitively feel like prime sing-along lyrics, but with MartynGBuckets’ atomic energy, they are. And like the rapper, audio engineer, and songwriter’s mind frame, the project exists on the edge of contemporary hip-hop and something more futuristic.

It’s in that place where MartynGBuckets is able to confront life’s excesses and vices. “Real Life Rockstar” blesses us with his latest storytelling sequel to his previous work. It’s a perfect cultivation of the rock star aesthetic, and it gives us an insightful idea of where he is now, and where he’ll go from here. It sonically spills his thoughts in a surprisingly effective project.
