He worked with the late, legendary Frank Zappa in the ’70s, founded Missing Persons in the ’80s, and became a long-term member of new wave legends Duran Duran in ’86, notably contributing to the band’s regained worldwide success on the 1993 chart-busting “Wedding Album”. Not one to rest on his laurels, the talented Brooklyn born guitarist however, has always continued his solo and collaborative work, and has just unleashed his 12 track album “Missing Person”. Described as “a deeply personal and conceptual record”,

Grand Rezerva: “Nowhere Bound” pumps adrenaline into the unsuspecting listener

The talented Swedish band Grand Rezerva – comprised of Michael C. Svensson – Vocals, Andreas Lundberg – Guitar, Mattias “Tiz” Nilsson – Guitar, Thomas Helgesson – Drums and Zoak – Bass – succinctly deliver bare-knuckled, catchy hard rock that’s captured with crystal clear production. The band wastes little time in making its intentions clear on the latest single, “Nowhere Bound”. Grand Rezerva’s simmering movement around the verses facilitates a sense of building momentum through the bridge that reaches a point of release at the chorus. The band has creatively shoehorned itself into 2019’s contemporary active rock radio ballgame, with a classic

J Tizzle: “The Chill Zone Vol 3” – The taste is smooth and distinguishable!

As living things, we need a steady supply of certain ingredients to survive. In music, the formula is undeniably similar. A song requires both rhythm and pitch. For the musically hungrier amongst us, these ingredients are not enough. We need to add extras, such as mood, atmosphere, emotion and groove. Unfortunately, even with the proper ingredients and extras the results are not always as expected. Stagnancy spreads within the craftsman, as well as a lack of skill or emotion. Luckily one, by the name of J Tizzle (Jeffery Townsend Sr.), avoids these annoying traits. Within his songbook exists all of

Heavy AmericA: “Motor Honey (Peace)” – It’s rock. Pure and simple.

A couple of years ago, the bands to emulate in modern rock were those that flooded the radios with wickedly catchy upbeat power pop tunes. Then came the neo-metal-driven climate, where even the tame end of the spectrum became heavier. On their new single, “Motor Honey (Peace)”, Boston based three piece rock group Heavy AmericA, proves themselves among the best in the alternative rock genre with a track loaded with hooks for mainstream appeal, but with an energy and drive that keeps them from sounding like mere imitators. The new release which has all the potential to climb the rock

Martone: “Erogenous Zone” keeps the adrenaline and emotions flowing!

It was 5 years ago that pop superstar, Sam Smith, stepped up to the plate and showed the world that love songs don’t have to be heteronormative to be beloved. Smith came out publicly, stating that he wanted to be clear on what his album was about. “It’s about a guy and that’s what I wanted people to know.” He was also completely aware of how important his success is to the public narrative. Hearing your humanity represented and validated by pop culture is important, and many LGBT supporting musicians have since been stepping up to share their experiences. The

Zawandi: “The Night” ft Beaufort Beats – Showcasing a throwback soulful groove

R&B/Pop singer-songwriter Zawandi remains consistent and continues to impress on her latest track, “The Night” ft Beaufort Beats. Zawandi is a fantastic artist.  Simply fantastic.  Unfortunately, R&B suffers the fate of so many musicians being underrated.  R&B and Soul as a whole is in an odd place these days, with only a selected few artists excelling in the mainstream.  Nonetheless, the faithful soldiers march on, regardless of the adversity.  Zawandi impressed on her last single, “Can’t Let You Go”, released in mid-2018. And now she returns even stronger on her latest effort. A funky, retro track for the modern audience, the upbeat song flows as smoothly as butter.

The chorus is the crowning achievement, where the vocals are big, expressive, and authentic.  In addition to the chorus, the bridge is alluring, switching things up, while the verses keeps the momentum going strong, not to mention keeping the soul alive. Zawandi’s voice remains exceptional, particularly in the nuances and cracks.

Her authenticity never comes into question.  Like the song that preceded this one, Zawandi gives a powerful performance, clearly showcasing her investment into what she’s singing.  The production work continues to be old-school with throwback cues, yet slick enough for 2019.

Keeping the punches coming, the up-tempo “The Night” ft Beaufort Beats is funky, infectious ear candy.  It’s chocked full of top-notch vocals, and marvelous production work.  Furthermore, the chemistry between Zawandi and the work by Beaufort Beats is out-of-this-world.

Zawandi certainly deserves credit for going beyond the expected by delivering an expressive, heartfelt performance. Zawandi may just be one of indie R&B’s most underrated artists, but she doesn’t let that dictate the quality of her output. This is another fine addition to her collection. She doesn’t reinvent the wheel nor does she need to – she stays in her lane with those raspy, soulful pipes doing its thing.

While Zawandi’s songs are soundly executed and enjoyable, and here she seems to perfectly hit her stride on the sensational “The Night” ft Beaufort Beats. From the opening bars showcasing a throwback soulful groove, there’s the sense that Zawandi is absolutely going for the kill.

All in all, “The Night” ft Beaufort Beats is a welcome R&B effort in 2019. With the undercooked efforts by a number of R&B artists last year, Zawandi makes sure she delivers the goods. She does have enormous talent, and an expressive voice rooted in R&B and Gospel traditions that can convincingly convey an inner strength or an aching heart.

Her vocals never lack passion, and her songwriting skills reveal a dedicated craftsmanship. “The Night” ft Beaufort Beats has a real bouncy groove to it, making it a great teaser for any new work, so we’re very excited to hear what else she has in store for us this year.

MORE ABOUT: Zawandi grew up in Jamaica Queens N.Y. in a house full of music. She has been singing from the age of 2, and has been influenced by the likes of Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan, Stephanie Mills and so many others.

Zawandi’s endless talent flows into her songwriting, which she has been doing as long as she can remember. Over the years Zawandi has worked with many up and coming artists, she was lead singer in a band, and has done shows from N.Y. to N.C.
