Ryan Anthony is a chill-out artist from the United Kingdom. He produces music in his studio in Wales. Previously known as Risey, Anthony has been playing the piano since the age of eleven, giving him the skills needed to produce the music that he creates today. After being signed to Alter Ego Records in the UK, Ryan Anthony has been taking over the chill-out genre by storm.
Also reviewed by us, Anthony’s music on his previous release, “Lost Inside My World”, displayed a beautiful and inspiring feeling. A haunting piano tune, dream-like beats, and the gorgeous vocals by Danny Claire, making everything sound as smooth as a brush of velvet.
This time around, Anthony delivers his much anticipated drum and bass single, “Fly Away” which is released on Forte Records. Let’s start by saying that this will make your legs start wobbling by themselves. Believe the hype on this release, because it literally breaks down genres for an absolute head-rush of sound. The track is so damn good that the 4:13 minutes on the original mix seems like 40 seconds long. The song literally flies by leaving you dazed and stunned wondering what the hell just happened to your ears.
“Fly Away” is simply massive. The drum prelude prepares you for the twisting piano and vocal intro before the twisting synths and growling bass lines sets in. Breakdowns and build-ups are all well-managed by an actual song structure, which is unusual for D’n’B in general. It pops, it’s fat and danceable, plus the dirty guitar track between sections adds both urgence and emotion. “Fly Away” builds into a hot, big bass chorus that will swallow you whole. Listen to this, and you won’t be able to keep still. You also can’t seem to turn it up loud enough either.
There can be no doubt that Ryan Anthony makes music that is perfect for working, dancing, chilling and cruising. You name it and this music will do it. From dream-like soundscapes to thumping dance-floor anthems, Anthony continues to outdo himself each time. He never just slaps together sounds, but painstakingly designs the pieces of each musical puzzle before putting it all together.
“Fly Away” covers all the D‘n’B action you could want, with deep grinding sounds to phasing warbles, all the while holding a tune and melody that harmonize with one another. Most drum and bass just pumps loud drums and crazy sounds that have nothing to do with one another, however Ryan Anthony proves that drum and bass can be awesome music, as long as its creator has a passion for what they are doing and knows how to make music.
