Elijah Dixon aka Elijah Rocq, was born in Brooklyn, New York, as the 6th of 9 children. Due to his mother’s love for music and to keep her clan in the field of music, she gave them instruments and turned her family to a band. He grew up listening to the likes of Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, The Chilites, Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Steel Pulse, just to name a few. At the age of 10, his family moved to Jamaica, where he continued his upbringing in a small district in the hills of St. Ann.
After performing with various bands and recording songs, Elijah got a from the Live Wyya band to be their lead vocalist – while with Live Wyya, he toured the U.S., Europe & Japan, having the honor of sharing the stage with legendary stars such as Gregory Isaacs, Marcia Griffins, Sanchez, Buju Bonton, Lee Scratch Perry and Sly & Robbie.
Now as a solo artist, Elijah Rocq has been gaining industry respect and increasing his fanbase with the release of the singles, “We Must Go On” and “Guess You Didn’t Know”. Elijah is a crooner par excellence in the rock-steady to the modern roots reggae game, and his collection of music proves it and then some.
Elijah not only writes brilliant original tunes, but also takes popular soul or R&B tunes from any era – like for example his cover of Stevie Wonder’s “Overjoyed” – and making them his own so that they supersede the term ‘cover’ tune. He melds his early urban American roots with his Jamaican upbringing to deliver a unique musical sensibility.
But on his brand new single release, “Back To Me”, Elijah Rocq branches out even further, stepping one foot firmly into the Urban Pop area. And the result is no less than amazing. He is not just another crossover by any means. The song is a gorgeous showcase for Elijah, as his voice fills the room, soaring over the equally great backing vocals and edgy grooving beat. Elijah has one of the most expressive voices around and it comes out on almost any recording he does, regardless of the genre or style.
He has a big range and can hold a note forever. His tenor is awesome and the emotion and passion he puts in his music is unbelievable. So if you like music that can make you move your feet, and touch your heart in a unique passionate way, here it is, with “Back To Me”.
Elijah Rocq is effortlessly talented and he grabs every inch of emotion within you with each new song presented. His music, straight from the soul, is exhaled with devotion and sincerity.
