Jassem Hashmi – ‘Music in the Making Vol X’ is a progression of his craft

Jassem Hashmi a.k.a JRemixOfficial or Dj Jas, is a Producer and Promoter with a love for Bhangra, Dhole and fusion. He has been making music since the year 2000 when he signed a deal with Sadaf Music to release the first Dj Remix Album from Pakistan, Featured on Channel V and MTV Asia. JRemixOfficial has not only performed across the globe, but he has collaborated with known artists all around the world. Jassem has released various albums and remixes over time, including: ‘Music in the Making Bhangra Revised – Vol III’, ‘Music in the Making Punjabi Vol II’, and ‘Music in the Making Vol I’.

After taking a long break, Jassem Hashmi is making a comeback with fresh remixes and collaborating with upcoming artists, including his daughter @natalyahashmi. Currently he is working towards the release of ‘Music in the Making Vol X’. Jassem Hashmi has long been a gold standard for artists looking to get reinterpreted in a whole new way. Often outshining the original material, the DJ/Producer pioneers his own cut-and-paste exotic sound.

Jassem Hashmi’s vibrantly rhythmic forms no known bounds, and whilst he often remixes music from well outside the strictly dance sphere, he never fails to conjure up something that sounds resolutely his own, and quite ready for dancefloors across the globe. In my eyes, a good remix should be an improvement of the original for dancefloor purposes. Which method is applied doesn’t matter to me.

Jassem Hashmi can do a total deconstruction or just a careful re-editing, but the decisive factor in making his remixes great is that they always feel truly inspired by the original in some way. A song gives remixers so many opportunities, its often hard choosing the right way to go. The experience collected along the way allows Jassem Hashmi to always find the most captivating route, as he moves across diverse tempos and styles.

Jassem Hashmi’s remixes always take great ideas and presents them with a new perspective, often taking the song to a higher level. His work on tracks like “Naach Meri Rani Taki Taki Nora Fatehi Vs Selena”, or “Kalle Kalle Ho Gayi / Happier” and Billie Eilish’s “Ocean Eyes” – the latter two featuring his daughter Natalya Hashmi – shows how Jassem Hashmi varies the aesthetics of his craft. The DJ/Producer centers his foundation on the percussive patterns and bassline, building the rest up from there, while focusing on the intricacy of the music.

I think that almost every DJ/Producer wants to make music that has a buzz or could be a hit, but few can aspire to that while at the same time working outside the box like Jassem Hashmi does on his tracks. He also never gets lost in his own mind or loses perspective of what the goal of the remixing project is.

Hence he is able to churn out eclectic and exotic remixes that are all-embracing, regardless of language, genre or style. Jassem Hashmi turns them into relatable and danceable grooves that will have you out on the floor all night. Keep your ears and eyes peeled for ‘Music in the Making Vol X’.
