Sooper Vega is an American rapper, actor, and writer. Born in New York, NY, Sooper Vega moved to Providence, RI at the age of 13. Following in the footsteps of his father, he began his career as a DJ. After releasing his first solo album in 2013 (Rise), Vega decided to turn his attention away from being a DJ and exert all his energy in focusing on developing himself as a musician and actor.
Sooper Vega formed “Chaos Co” after the passing of his uncle Freddy. Promising to pursue a music career and making music his uncle would have enjoyed. After disbanding the group in 2012 Sooper has continued with his solo career through a multitude of setbacks and problems, which has caused him to lose ground within the industry. Currently he is back with a brand new single, entitled “Losing You” which is inspired by “the turbulence of romance and life.”
Is it cool to consider Sooper Vega underrated? I mean, he has enough experience under his belt by now. But by the look of “Losing You”, it sounds like he still has something to prove. And thankfully, his flow still holds up after a 3 year pause. What may be Sooper Vega’s best work transpires over a dark, brooding soundscape and a soul-stirring piano backing, and Sooper makes the most of the opportunities offered by The Cratez’ production.
This soulfully slow, brooding introspection is a real showcase of Sooper Vega’s linguistics. No one can question his lyrical prowess. Proving that he’s more than just one the gimmicky new-breed rappers, Sooper often slows his flow way down before ratcheting up the pace. To him, it’s a marathon, not a sprint. It’s the mark of a wily mind, showing that he can do it all.
For the casual listener, there’s a certain allure to a rapper who can spit really fast. Hearing someone throw down multiple words per second without taking a breath can give a rush. However, for more avid hip-hop heads, rapping fast can quickly lose its majesty when the rapid-fire syllables are revealed to be little more than a bark without bite.
Instead Sooper Vega’s remarkably versatile, seamlessly bouncing baritone shines with zealous and commanding wordplay. He clearly has a knack for the lyrical side of the art form, and ultimately, a sense of passionate purpose unites both the flow and the lyrics.
Sooper keeps everything focused and shines bright while doing it. You are getting a quality product when you push play on “Losing You”. At some points it gets dark and then you might find a verse that motivates you. These are the things you will come to expect from Sooper Vega.
