The artist Three60 has been making music since the early 2000’s. “Cash” is a single off the project “Untold Story” released on June 6th 2017. The track finds the MC taking his own lane right into the catchy mainstream with an alternative twist and it’s a smooth ride. Three60 relies on a singsong flow that sits atop a slickly produced percussive beat. Hip-hop is so saturated with songs about women, partying and cash that links to all the hedonism possible, yet the track, which deals in these very subjects, is still thoroughly engaging.
If you look up the meaning of poetry in some urban dictionaries, the definition you get is “The art of rhythmical composition, written or spoken, for exciting pleasure by beautiful imaginative or elevated thoughts. Poetry can of course, be applied to other things rather than just a piece of paper, one of these things being music. Many people consider certain hip-hop to be poetry, and in many regards, it definitely can be.”
With this single, Three60, dismisses all rules and regulations that many MC’s follow in trying to execute their poetry. On this track you won’t find any features from other rappers, any song structure that follows a particular clichéd production formula, or even any catchy female sung choruses that jump out at you. This track is not only a book of street language, but also a book on how to break all the rules, and how to break them in the best way possible.
Three60 is at the top of his game throughout the entire runtime, never slipping or showing any signs of weakness. His performance is absolutely stunning. His ideas come across through his rhymes in a fluid and well thought out strategy. Rapping over the use of his own rhyme scheme guidelines. On “Cash” we hear Three60 flowing with such precision and swagger, that it makes many other rappers deemed “intelligent” seem second to none.
The track shows what an MC can do by not following the said methodical guidelines. Three60 feels very much like an old school MC with a new style on this record. Mic controller, move the crowd, master of ceremonies, whatever you want it to stand for, it feels like he knows his job and is properly executing.
The more you listen and the more you spend time with “Cash”, the more you embrace the thumping bass and breathe beat. I’ve got to hand it to Three60 for making a tight track with an overarching melodic sound bringing everything together.
