Jay Galiano: “My City” ft. Leena Justin – a different take on love

Jay Galiano started his music career in 2014 releasing several chart topping singles on the iTunes Charts in Spain. With a extremely unique voice combined with elegant Dance Pop Beats, Galiano established himself as one the new emerging faces in the European-Latin American Market, collaborating with important Producers such as Pedro del Moral (Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin, Santana, Kym Mazelle among others). Jay Galiano has just released his new video-single entitled “My City”, featuring Leena Justin, a well-known Diva of the 90’s who stormed the Dance Charts with her project “ASAP”, remixing International Stars such as Duran Duran (Wild boys) and Texas (Say what you Want).

The new track is a different sounding track than what we have heard in the past from American dance icons. It is a bit more Brit synth-pop oriented then we are used to seeing from our main stage DJ’s, but also draws heavily on the influence of a summery, Latin pop sound. The instrumental is soothing yet uplifting with its smartly reverbed vocals, easy percussion and soft piano chords but there is a clear move towards a Latin Pop crossover sound with this one.

The track is a different take on love, whereas in pop culture, men or woman often times sing about having various lovers, writers Paul Malcolm & Jay Galiano flip that script up-side down, with Galiano singing about love for a city: “Cos I’m in love with you, my city of the sun. When night time comes around, you make me feel at one with you.”

Jay Galiano’s latest single, is a potential crossover electronic hit, showcasing a seductive voice. But the beauty is in what unifies the song – Galiano’s singular ability to imbue the utilitarian thump-thump of dance with Latin musicality and heartfelt emotion. From the opening bars expectations are met and super seeded so I immediately hit replay. If you loved the Pet Shop Boys, you’ll find plenty to like here.

This track is going round again and I’m not the only one within ear shot of my stereo who is pleased about it. The easy groove take is not unexpected but the track has a key element which makes a dance record of this nature a standout. Intelligence. “My City” is put together by someone with a wealth of talent, intelligence and an Idea of how to make the roots of dance and pop music come alive together.

Leena Justin is the perfect ally for the Jay Galiano sound, and combined they produce a track which stands out and treats the listener to an ear-endearing experience they won’t readily forget because they won’t take it out of their media player for weeks – All-round a great record, a great experience and hats off to a great producer and singer.
