bando bando: “no luv” – There are moments of genius here!

21 year old Canadian, bando bando, is in a collective with 2D DeadRose & lil dog bowl called “fromthecold”. An aspiring jewelry designer, digital artist, potential social media mogul, and music artist, bando bando has dropped the single, “no luv”. I’ve always gravitated toward artists whose creativity and personality sometimes outweighs their technical precision. That’s not to say I like goofy artists who can barely string a sentence or put a musical composition together, but music is about the feeling you get from it. I appreciate both sides of the coin, but for an art form that has so much creative room, I’m always drawn to the song I can nod my head along to and appreciate the audacity of whoever is performing it. That’s why I love bando bando. He’s doing his own thing, and he’s calling it ‘emotional durag music’. F*cking love it!

The song “no luv” is done in a kind of sing-song way, where bando bando is half rapping and half sticking to a singalong reggae-meets-trap melody. Of course he totally kills it with a heavy accent and English street poetry that reads: “she wan fucc me now cuz i been flessed up (been flessed up) / off a lot at once an now im messed up (im messed up) / Im a real finessa finessed ya depressed but still i ran my check up / pussy boi dat aint no chain das a necklace”. Now how can you not find that entertaining!

There are moments of genius here, but I’ll leave you to find them. Suffice to say that bando bando sounds like an extremely high extraterrestrial, seemingly without a filter and carrying in his eclectic dome a wealth of knowledge, and a ton of obscure tongue in cheek experiences.

The moments when his quaint personality and off-kilter lyrical maneuverability are the focal points is when the track is at its best – “cook they food like aunt june (ouu), gucci on ma undaroos (ouu), bando bando who you, she skrechin out deem lulus, take yo booo an woohooo, like she neva knew you (nah nah)” – get what I mean?

bando bando revels in describing everything he sees, smells, tastes, smokes, touches, fucks – just about every sensation that doesn’t require you to think…but directly enjoy. Once you get a hang of the melody, lyrics, and style, you’re going to dig this.

Anyone concerned that the music scene is currently lacking in eclectic creative figures who work totally out of the box and garnish their sound with artistically challenging ideas can now rest easy. One of the more eccentric figures to emerge in recent years, bando bando is single-handedly filling that void!
