The preconceived notions of what a KonQuestNow (VerseBorn & Wreck The Rebel) track is going to be like are plentiful well before you even press play. This has been a boon to their career, in what has become a viral habit of either hating or loving something based almost solely on your own personal internet culture and what your daily feed prompts you to feel about a certain subject. The collective’s name has become synonymous with great lyrics, superb beats, and originality. On their latest track “NOP (No One’s Perfect)”, produced by Wreck The Rebel, featuring STP & J.Morgan, KonQuestNow (VerseBorn & Wreck The Rebel), demonstrate once again that they are among the most intelligent, creative, and talented active artists out there.
It’s good to know that they haven’t run low on ideas. Here they bring a couple of smart concepts to the table – First, “perfection is unattainable, if we chase it we catch excellence,” and second, “it’s better to do something imperfectly than to do nothing flawlessly.” Everything that people love about KonQuestNow is on this track: metaphorical lyrics, a unique beat, incredible replay value, on point features, and the list goes on and on. KonQuestNow always give us something different than the usual fare of a genre that has long lost most of its coolness.
Wreck The Rebel opens the first verse: “Don’t ever try to knock me, I’m strong like a Wookie / Grew up wit my Pops and Grandma’s sugar cookies.” STP takes over on the hook: “Im here for a purpose and I know it / To learn and live but never forget no one’s perfect.” And VerseBorn kills the second verse: “Here for a purpose puffin – Urkle im off the purple searchin / For precise movements- Surgical circles.” J.Morgan delivers verse three: “The more I am myself, the more I feel alive / Working 9-5 then work a 5-9.”
This is one of KonQuestNow’s most focused, thematic, and accessible track yet. I would say that “NOP (No One’s Perfect)” quantifies the realm of what hip-hop should be; as this crew definitely continue to step their game up. They are the masters of intelligent poetic lyrics with flows that perfectly blend with the beat.
One of the most powerful things about hip-hop is its ability to present deeply personal thoughts and feelings. This track doesn’t just showcase the rappers unique penchant for wordplay, as well as a vocabulary which could make even the most seasoned writers jealous; it also takes the listener through a wisdom enhancing narrative, which is almost impossible not to relate to it in some way.
While most good rappers know how to deal with their personal experiences in song, KonQuestNow’s examination and depiction of life are filtered through an assemblage of uncanny language. “NOP (No One’s Perfect)” is another reminder that KonQuestNow are scrupulous purveyors of our universe.
