Born in Brazil, and currently residing in Los Angeles, Nathi is a singer-songwriter and producer who infuses her music with themes of unity and embracing people of all cultures and ethnicities. A classically trained pianist who continued her education at the Musician’s Institute in Hollywood, Nathi is also a painter and visual artist, responsible for the artwork on her latest visual EP “Foreign”. It’s weird and a little unexpected to hear new music that seems so calculatingly and intentionally good, boasting some fine, funky, soulful and jazzy instrumentation. Nathi’s single “Foreign”, offers a breath of fresh air that finds power through simplicity and spontaneity.
Nathi employs what I would call cool watercolor neo-soul. In typical exotic fashion, she delivers a good amount of mystique as she takes her own spin on her muses. In this case the theme of being “foreign”. Nathi’s achieves an intimacy and warmth that makes you feel that it’s best to bare your emotions on your sleeve, rather than hide behind your fragilities.
This track is stupendously dope, as Nathi makes you stop what you’re doing to listen to her spill the beans on her own self. She loves her people. She’s learned about herself and the world around her. And she takes you, the listener, on a journey to liberate your mind from borders and boundaries.
I was ready to totally give up on the music scene as far as songstresses and divas are concerned – then Nathi delivers this insightful, uplifting and intelligent track. “Foreign” is beyond entertainment. The way the different organic instruments and voices rise and fall throughout the track is powerful and beautiful at the same time. Simply soul-stirring. The bass is perfection. I don’t know how anyone with an ounce of rhythm in their body could not love this track.
Nathi also has a super-cool, seventies performance style which is thrillingly mystical and sensual as opposed to today’s explicit brashness. Who cares about mainstream, when you can get raw emotion behind the music, along with originality, which is far better.
This is what is aimed for here and the result is awesome. Nathi’s voice is entrancing and delivers a mental elixir that gives us a break from music that is filled with materialism and posturing. She is a powerful, serious performer with an obvious respect for her craft and an incredible smooth vocal range. There can hardly be a doubt that she will become a force to be reckoned with.
I listened to some of Nathi’s other tracks, and can say that her music presents a journey into a deep and tender part of her soul. From the opening whispers of her songs the listener is made to feel part of her world, and is drawn in to share her thoughts and emotions. Nathis’s music is so deep that it has both therapeutic as well as entertainment benefits for the listener.
