Though many country music lovers feel that the true country sound is gone simply because of what they are hearing on mainstream radio these days, the truth is that it isn’t gone at all but you just have to dig a little deeper to find it. Texas is one spot to dig for it and you will be amazed at what you find. You will find several artists playing a brand of country music that you will love including, Don Woods. With his album “90 Proof”, Don blends influences from the classic era, with the modern era, giving listeners an album that is undeniably country without sounding dated.
He perfectly hits on several different tempos throughout the album and balances them all but he is smart enough as an artist to keep this just modern enough to have an updated classic sound. Because of this ability, if Don Woods sits in waiting for the current pop/rock trend of country’s mainstream to pass, then he will be right there and ready to take the reins when the opportunity to do so presents itself.
Influenced by George Jones, Chris Young, Eric Church, Merle Haggard, and Waylon Jennings among others, Don Woods has attended and performed at CMA FEST in 2015, 2016 ,2017 and was invited back for the 2018 CMA FEST. He has also performed at the Famous Wild Horse Saloon in Nashville Ten., The House of Blues Dallas Texas, and Gilley’s Dallas Texas.
On July 16, 2016 he was present at Branson Landing-Southern Revival Concert Series, presented by Ford Trucks and Sam Ash Music stores with a 30K attendance. And during August 8-13, he was at the 2017 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally for 4-5 appearances.
“Like anything in life you have to work hard at it and focus on the prize,” says Don. “I really believe in life you need to have “blinders” on, just like a racing horse in a race, so you stay focused on the race and not what’s going on around you. One must stay focused on your dream, put your blinders on everyday do not pay any attention to the naysayers, the dream crushers, or all the negative talk that will come at you. Surround yourself with like-minded people!”
