Slick, soulful, and melodic – this stuff is made for the radio. BEEA is a world class singer and performer, and she’s miles beyond some of her pop star peers, currently on the scene. Her brand new track “Ride Or Die” showcases her voice and passionate delivery, which keeping things intense and emotional. Aside from the song’s sonic and stylistic consistency, one notable difference between the material here and BEEA’s peers is the rawness of Brazilian beauty’s vocals. The frayed edges of the singer’s voice, are played as assets here. Her voice feels lived-in and wizened and she turns in a sultry performance with it.
Classic soul tropes are juxtaposed with modern pop touches. Right from the start BEEA’s sultry voice is warming, like a blanket on a cold winter night, and though almost 4 minutes minute feels like the perfect length, it is easy to wish there was more where that came from, once the final bars of the song dies down.
Confidence oozes from every orifice in “Ride Or Die”, as BEEA embraces her image, her personality, and her craft. The song carries a strong attitude as she sings about giving someone her all but it never being enough, remaining aggressive and up-front.
Waltzing semi-muted guitar strums and a slow to mid-tempo beat carries the song, as a wholesome harmony effect builds life and character through it. The track highlights BEEA’s vocal range from low and warm, which runs sweet and thick like honey, to the powerful husky highs that cuts right through the air.
It is undeniably easy to get lost in the music effortlessly as mystical, soulful sounds swirl throughout while BEEA painfully and hauntingly states, “You got to know how I feels to be left for dead. You got to know how it feels, I gave you more than I had. You got to know how it feels when I open the door, and this house ain’t no home anymore.”
But just as much as she is hurt, her pride and strength still resides resiliently in her soul when she assertively asks: “What the fuck is wrong with you?” And then tauntingly lays down the gauntlet: “I’m still your wife, ride or die!” The most obvious way to read her narrative—as she presents it, time and again in the song—is one of resilience and individuality. Who can’t relate?
You see a women struggling to keep her relationship alive. You see a fight against an uncaring attitude. You see a battle against indifference. You see a search for true love. Isn’t that what the world needs more of?
This soul-filled peppiness and passion is a sound that female stars have adopted to a surprising extent lately. The swerve back to soul elements in pop comes off as both an aesthetic and ideological reply to a chart landscape ruled by heavily processed, rap-inflected male voices.
For BEEA in particular, “Ride Or Die” makes sense as a perfect mission statement, simultaneously defiant and traditional. And nothing courts a mass male audience more than a hot lady on fire. One look at the cover artwork confirms the aforementioned statement to be true in every possible way. BEEA is the total package!
The track was mixed, mastered and produced in L.A. California by John Ho. Music and lyrics is by BEEA, while Antoine Salem played the guitar. Arrangements were handled by BEEA and Javier Martinez.
