With an immersing voice and unique delivery, Detroit-born and Youngstown-raised, Hip-hop/R&B songstress Briawna, returns with her latest message-heavy EP “Sorry Not Sorry,” to mesmerize and captivate listeners. The seven-track project features atmospheric beats, catchy melodic elements, vibrant instrumentation, and alluring vocals. From the soothing “Faded” to the self-empowering “Voicemails,” Briawna delivers melodic bliss combined with lyrical depth across the album.
“Sorry Not Sorry” deals out intriguing lyricism, embellished with the artist’s sharp wordplay, powerful statements, as well as the melodic soar of her voice. The recording is a showcase for her singing and songwriting skills, which merges R&B, rap, and hip-hop elements seamlessly into one infectious blend of soul-stirring substance.
In her new record, the intrepid Briawna is more lucid than ever, and her songwriting navigates a plethora of themes. At times she’s somber and contemplative, as on “Die Again” and “Faded”. Then she’s playfully self-aware, and super-sexy on “Hoe Anthem”. “Issa Witches World” and “Python” brings her raw combative spirit to the table. The title track “Sorry Not Sorry” is a slow-burning, self-empowering anthem, while “Voicemails” delivers another deeply reflective rumination.
Packed with high-production standouts, in some ways the EP, “Sorry Not Sorry”, feels like a cathartic cleansing. Beyond the superbly structured arrangements which fortifies Briawna’s nuanced vocals, the through-line of this soul-searching mix is the singer’s razor-sharp focus: her ability to dissect her own vulnerabilities and strengths with cutting, incisive songwriting – all whilst retaining ear-catching sensibilities.
There’s something mantric, almost self-affirming about the songs on “Sorry Not Sorry”. Moreover, there’s an emotional maturity that’s palpable across the entire record, as Briawna’s re-invigorates her sonic template with cutting edge lucidity. Expertly crafted, “Sorry Not Sorry” appears before you with its layers stacking neatly, jaunting at angles to create a cinematic vision of personal and intimate realizations and catharsis. The melding of beats, instrumentation and vocals congeal to form a silky smooth sonic palate.
The EP “Sorry Not Sorry” will be available on all digital stores on December 1st.
