Independent hip-hop artist and Chicago native Jay Lyn Gatz wields an energetic flow that resides in a realm of its own. Taking pride in his originality, Gatz is always sharpening his pen. After charting at number four on the iTunes hip-hop charts with his “Black Syllabus” EP, he’s aiming to take it to the next level.
With a sound that’s both fresh and nostalgic, his latest release “The Sims” delivers in both departments. In this moving lo-fi tune inspired by Electronic Arts’ game series, Gatz tackles the reality of living in a world where happy memories no longer feel real. From worldly woes like racial trauma, the pandemic, and financial struggles, becoming more detached from the things that bring us joy is almost too easy.
Sometimes, people get so caught up in these repetitive patterns that life starts to feel like a simulation. Like the game, The Sims, life feels out of our control and in the hands of someone else entirely. Breaking out of the simulation is the only way to stop the cycle. The song is produced by AYEON and features silky vocals from Rah Aminah.
