Saga B – “Bottle Service” neatly fits into her artistic stride!

Rapper and singer, Berglind Saga Bjarnadóttir aka Saga B, has come a long way since beginning her musical journey just a year ago in the midst of the pandemic. In 9 months she has released 4 singles as well as an EP. Her latest single release “Bottle Service” has been gaining national attention, as the artist steps outside of the box to challenge country’s usually strict moral codes and cultural customs. Saga B hails from Iceland, which has a population of 350k, and where anything involving explicit content or nudity is considered highly disrespectful and taboo. Moreover strip clubs are also banned in the country. But that hasn’t stopped the artist from boldly stepping up to the plate with a super sexy video shot in a Champagne Club in the country’s capital city, Reykjavík, for the brand new single.

All of this gives us the measure of Saga B’s passion and ambition for her craft, as well as her love of the game. Through her explicit lyrics, dynamic rap verses, and fearless performances, Saga B makes it known that, when it comes to her music and the image she wants to project, she is in charge. The artist’s sexual freedom, ability to switch flow in the middle of a verse, and fun wordplay are all commendable elements of “Bottle Service”.

Produced by Kevin Anayeji, the music is minimalistic, concentrating on a dominating bassline and skittering percussion, which allows Saga B to scale her flow freely over the top. Something she does with comfort and ease.

Saga B never forces or overruns her talent with overwhelming or overwrought posing and phrasing. Everything she does neatly fits into her own artistic stride. She’s free of the chains that may be holding her local contemporaries down and her talk feels natural and confident.

“Bottle Service” is an open proclamation of her artistic persona and sexuality, as well as a justification of why she deserves attention. The track comes together to show us what – as an artist – Saga B thinks, wants and, perhaps most importantly, is achieving with her courageous artistic choices. While the 2020 single “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” signaled an effortless and playful gateway to the global rap world, “Bottle Service” demonstrates that the Icelandic rapper can consistently deliver deliberate and lush productions to great effect.
