Shadarra Lockett is the CEO/Founder of the ‘Underground Industry’ blog. She features music ranging from Hip-Hop, R&B, Trap Bass, Pop, and more. Shadarra began blogging in June, 2013, and then took a break all through 2014, re-launching her blog in December of 2015. She’s not only a blogger, but an artist and producer as well.
One of the projects Shadarra is featuring is the compilation mixtape she put together, called ‘Underground Industry Presents – 2016 Gumbo Ave Reloaded’. The mixtape shawcases various artists, including Sosa412, Champz, Johnny Jr., Bandit, Bearded Legend, Miguel Bain, SamDoes, Taj Mahall, Zack Miller, ILLMIND, Shun Quo, Trizzy, E. Bandit, ATraxz, Doug G., & Brandee Britt.
This all-encompassing collection includes music from current underground, independent and lesser known heavyweights of rap who relentlessly work their craft on the road to lodging side by side with the artists who paved the way in the rap game and continue to be an ever present force in the music industry.
This compilation from Underground Industry is perfect for anyone that loves Rap or Hip-Hop. There is a huge variety of artists here, to suit all rap needs. The artists featured here are reaching out to this generation with a voice that this generation can understand, that they can relate to, and that they can appreciate.
You’ll find all the regular rap themes – money, sex and partying – locked into many of these tracks, but at the same time if you listen a little harder, under the surface you’ll find many deeper verses to satisfy your curious mind. A simple example may be “Zack Miller – Questions From Space [Prod. By Canis Major]”, or the introspective style of “ILLMIND (Feat. Shun Quo) – Provin Grounds [Prod. By ILLMIND]”.
If you like something a bit more eclectic and alternative, check out “Bearded Legend – Renaissance Man [Prod. By Bearded Legend]”. On the other hand, maybe full-blooded swagger is your thing, in that case grab an earful of “Johnny Jr. – Scottie Pippen [Prod. By Killbighead”].
You’ll even find quick-witted lady rappers, in the form of “E. Bandit – Hands Up (Like You Gettin’ Robbed) [Prod. By Duane DaRock]” and “Brandee Britt – Revived [Prod. By Brandee Britt]” to delight your ears. As you may notice Brandee not only raps, but she produced the track too – a double threat! Another gem in the rough is Trizzy who has no less than 2 tracks featured on the compilation. Savor his clever wordplay and crazy rhyme schemes on “Trizzy – Rap [Prod. by Classixs Beats]” and “Trizzy – M.O. [Prod. By Munchrill of BE$Gang]”.
However, pulling out random tracks from this mix is pretty unfair considering that everything on this tape has something to offer the listener – from the lyrics and flows, to the fabulous productions that go from old school samples to spacey futuristic beats.
Shadarra Lockett has assembled a compilation that demands respect for the simple fact that it showcases creative talents from the modern hip-hop world, all in one place. There is no need to scour obscure blogs and music platforms to uncover new talent – ‘Underground Industry Presents – 2016 Gumbo Ave Reloaded’, does it all for you!
