New York-based EDM duo VAVO was formed in 2015 by the talents of Vancouver native Jesse Fischer and London born Alden Martin. VAVO’s early works featured a progressive, electro sound, which appealed to a wide audience, and it included their remix of Martin Garrix’s “Scared To Be Lonely,” their first solo single “Ace Of Spades,” “Astronomia 2K17,” and their remix of TheFatRat’s “Fly Away.” The duo started 2018 off with a bang, dropping ‘How Low’ with John Christian on Tiesto’s Musical Freedom Records. In March, VAVO debuted a new creative direction – an EDM/Pop crossover sound that has resonated with listeners and gained them massive radio attention across the globe. “Sleeping Alone” has become their most recognizable track as a BPM Breaker on Sirius XM’s BPM and VAVO’s music has been featured on Spotify’s Top Viral 50, Beatport’s Top 100 Electro House Chart, as well as multiple charts and platforms worldwide.
VAVO have dropped their summer anthem entitled “No Friend Zone” via KESS Records. The electronic pop duo really have a knack for making some infectious tracks. Nearly every song in their catalog rings with lots of rhythm and appeal.
The new single has bouncy, infectious synths that keep the song light and adds some dimension and melody to the track alongside the soaring vocals, even though the synths do enough of all of that on their own already. The song starts gently and builds progressively, ultimately becoming an awesomely energetic anthem with jumpy synths and a big phat beat.
The vocalist’s nuanced flair and wide reaching range adds a lot of color to the already distinctive track. Making sure this anthem will have all listeners simultaneously rolling their eyes and bopping their heads along to the infectious melody.
Sonically, “No Friend Zone” marks another step into the crossover realm for the EDM/Pop duo. It truly exemplifies the strides that the duo have made thus far in their field of choice. Indeed, the track showcases VAVO’s unique potential, illustrating how this dedicated outfit can truly take the music industry by storm by effectively marrying evocative bass drops and Pop leads to the scene.
There is a downright abundance of EDM collectives producing beats that overlap pulsating synths decent enough to fist-bump to. However, few underground EDM collectives embrace this niche with such confidence.
The vocals are clean and expressive, yet hypnotic as the entrancing soundscape bubbles up, complementing the evocative lyrics. It provides a truly brilliant vocal performance that incorporates rich vocal texture and a unique color to complement the music.
Indeed the chemistry between the two blends irresistibly smoothly. Unlike many songs with a main focus on vocal melody “No Friend Zone” does not weaken its punchy synths: instead, they only build up intensity.
This contagious single perfectly captures millennial youthfulness and free spirit within a truly dynamic beat and clever lyricism. It is in fact, the epitome of infectious and anthemic EDM. With it, VAVO demonstrates its potential to climb the charts and dominate the EDM/Pop industry.
