Mortinus – “Star Chariot (Yellow Odyssey)” and “Oceania” – gently beatific music

As the months pass slowly into years, it becomes increasingly plain to all concerned that Danish electronic music producer, Mortinus is taking his craft very seriously. He has been extraordinarily prolific and has maintained an enviable level of quality in his releases. When approaching his two singles “Star Chariot (Yellow Odyssey)” and “Oceania” the question that arises is how will Mortinus sound fare in the altered musical terrain of 2020? Well the two new singles, are fine examples of some of the best ambient, chillout, downtempo and cinematic instrumental music being made today. Mortinus’ sound is alive and well, and his

Fearless and uncompromising, Stiff Lauren is back to deliver a triumphant track about having faith in yourself no matter what. Cyrus R.O. – “Bones” is still a skillfully crafted song

I think I expected this music to be sterile and methodical. However, to my surprise, Cyrus R.O.’s new single “Bones” from his upcoming debut album “Deconvolution” is blazingly irradiated like bundle of energy that expertly marries the organic and synthetic. Underneath it all, a darker lyrical narrative dealing with “a character struggling with their gender identity, and the fear of social turmoil that comes with that.” Everything just grooves so well together; it’s a blend of sounds that I haven’t heard done this well from any progressive, jazz, or electronic artist in quite some time. It’s a masterful melding of electronic machinery with

Temperature Falls Release The Video For Their Latest Single “1-2-3”

The sound and atmosphere of Temperature Falls is built around somewhat gritty, blended organic-electronic sounding tracks that hearken the listener back to earlier times. Their latest track, ‘1-2-3’, is a seductive track that pulls the listener in with an eerie melody, sultry vocals and an ethereal reverberating atmosphere. Mixed beautifully, this is the perfect example of what to expect from this indie trip-hop/alternative rock duo from Oslo, Norway, made up of vocalist/lyricist Camilla, and multi-instrumentalist Ian J. Ward. ‘1-2-3’ is a gorgeous, melancholic song that is heart wrenchingly beautiful. Temperature Falls is one of those bands that are absolutely necessary

All elements support the soaring voice

Arrows – “After Hours” – Inspired by 80’s synthwave and video game sound tracks

“After Hours” the brand new full length album by Arrows, says all it needs to about the brand of retro nostalgia this kind of music evokes. The project’s sonic palette is especially dense with layer upon layer of synth sounds stacked upon one another and wrapped up in a modern production veneer that makes it bang. Every song delivers big in the keyboard hooks department and the moods are consistently melancholy and wistful throughout. “After Hours” is Arrows hitting their stride; this is what it sounds like when a young band is killing it. Inspired by 80’s synthwave and video

PWJazy – “Heroes” – the mind of an alternative creative

LA-based performer, PWJazy, is an unusual artist. His songwriting is soulful and the arrangements are mind blowing. His voice is a breath of fresh air with all of the nonsense that has been going on for years in the music scene. His singing has a distinctive tone that has not been auto tuned or fixed up in any other manner. “Heroes”, his latest single, is a really intriguing, diverse recording. I didn’t like it when I first heard it, but the uniquely experimental alternative rock sound, the bombastic lead guitars, and the dark, mysterious lyrics somehow fuse together to produce

João Tostes – “Live Ukulele Here, There & Everywhere” exhibits dazzling musical dexterity

How often do you get to hear a full length live album of twenty instrumental songs played on the ukulele? Someone who has toured the world, taking his ukulele sound, to the most diverse countries – from Brazil to Canada, Italy and South Korea, among others. The Brazilian musician, composer, arranger and musical educator, in

Angela C. Howell: “There’s Nothin’ I Don’t Love…” – deft phrasing and a nuanced delivery

My, oh my, what an extraordinary song! All of the extraordinary shine of Angela C. Howell’s six previous albums is once again realized here on her latest single “There’s Nothin’ I Don’t Love…” – a track destined to be included on her forthcoming seventh album release . If at all possible, she continues to grow considerably. There’s more emotional assurance here, more control, more detail, more nuance – and, heaven knows, there was plenty of all that before. For me, the most endearing feature of this woman’s voice is its effortless perfection. Angela never seems to strain anything. Every note, every bend, every glissando is absolutely clear and pure and right. Every word is understandable. No matter how it’s sung, on a single note or a dozen – each one is clear and distinct. Angela’s deft phrasing and nuanced delivery make each passage in the song different, and this one is full of bluesy oomph to boot!

“There’s Nothin’ I Don’t Love…” swings and is sung with a kind of sassy fervor that lends whole new vistas of meaning to the title. Uplifting and affirming of the strength of having a strong two-way relationship as a foundation for romance, the song is a breath of fresh air from the egoism pervading the airwaves today. It teems with the glittering that onlookers can see in a couple’s eyes when the love and appreciation is in sheer abundance.

The tone that is carried throughout the track is a confident one. And alongside the confidence and sophisticated style, is a fierce performer who really doesn’t have to prove much considering her curriculum, but sings as if she does anyway. A sign that her music grows with her maturation, but doesn’t lose its youthful edge.

Multiple years in the business, especially within the context of the social media era we live in, can feel like an eternity. Memories can fade, attention spans can shorten and interests can shift completely from one artist to the next. But that’s when you’re a modern, trend-driven fan and the artist in question is still, proving themselves.

The time factor doesn’t matter if you’re a bona-fide, full-on multi-talented, multitasking artist like Angela C. Howell. A musician, actress, vocalist, composer, writer, conductor, teacher, director, and producer – Angela has sung all over the United States and most of Europe. She also heads two productions companies (Better For It and Howell Productions), which have produced original plays, multiple genre writing competitions, and numerous developmental works.

Mixed and Engineered by Grammy award-winning David Darlington and co-produced by Danny Madden, “There’s Nothin’ I Don’t Love…” was recorded in Manhattan and features drummer Chris McBurney (Let It Be international tour), bassist Scott Hopkins (Tonecats), backing vocalists Audrey Wheeler (Chaka Kahn) and Cindy Mizelle (Bruce Springsteen), and an electric guitar track by artist Brandt Taylor (CT Blues society 2017 finalist). Something tells me that we can only continue to hear better music from this magnificent woman as the years progress and I can’t wait to hear what’s next.
