Omar Bowing is an independent artist and songwriter located in Austin, Tx. His latest single and music video, “Warrior” features Tyson Yen (vocals), Will Jones (drums) and Martin Motnik (bass guitar). Bowing plays an innovative instrument called the GuitarViol which is a guitar with cello strings so it can be bowed. He tunes his GuitarViol to 432 Hz looking for the natural pitch.
“Warrior” rocks hard – plain and simple. Every aspect of this track is just amazing. From the head-banging-worthy riffs to the parts where you find yourself screaming right along with Tyson without even realizing it, I’m hard-pressed to find a downside.
If there’s one thing I can say about Omar Bowing and his band, is that they are very consistent. Meaning they never falter or sell out on the unique sound they have developed, with the GuitarViol leading the way. In fact, on “Warrior”, they maintain their hard rock edge and continue to expand, improving on their already rich sound.
Here Bowing emerges with another recording, featuring an exciting, original and evolving musical language all his own. This is the kind of talent and vision that doesn’t need to be associated with any particular instrument. The fact that Bowing is a wizard on the GuitarViol, is merely the setup. The real magic is in the beauty of his musical vision.
From blistering virtuosity to delicate meditations Bowing provokes the listener with fresh takes on a wide range of GuitarViol sounds, never losing his sense of balance. He is more than just another guitarist showing off his latest chops, although his considerable fretboard skills are certainly displayed throughout. But it is the musical compositions themselves that take center stage, and “Warrior” is no exception.
“Warrior” opens like the soundtrack to some epic action movie and leads up to the powerful end section, featuring Bowing laying down some jaw-dropping soloing, full of fire, blinding speed and melody. Backed by an impressive cast of musicians, Bowing has created a single of power and glory, of melody and muscle.
If you’re a guitar player looking for music with a panoramic scope and the ability to challenge and inspire you, Omar Bowing’s music will fit the bill. Forget the fact that Bowing is a gifted guitarist playing a unique and innovative instrument in the GuitarViol. Bowing’s rock compositions, in and of themselves, stand on their own, and as with all great music, his songs get better with repeated listening.
I’m just going to say that if you like guitar-driven music that’s interesting, creative, heartfelt, and played by talented musicians with terrific sound quality, who just plain rock the house down, Omar Bowing should be on your playlist!
