Xavier White was raised in Albany, but has furthered his ventures from Albany to California. Switching high schools was not tough for him since he loved meeting new people. Raised by a single mother in a household with his little sister, Xavier always made time to get away and to write music. He even taught himself how to play both the guitar and the piano. After graduation, Xavier ventured out from the small district of the 518 to the broader and bigger world of the United States and even to Europe.
Xavier White has recently dropped his EP titled “Our Last Memories” with the help of his producer Lucas Hass and executive producer Angelksion. The songwriting and song production are excellent and Xavier’s powerful voice is full of emotion, and that makes this EP great. It is definitely a creative leap forward for him. On this EP, Xavier sounds comfortable and self-assured. Whether choosing an up-beat tune, or a slow love ballad, Xavier does them all equally well.
“On My Way”, is a great ballad and you can tell that Xavier is on a mission to prove himself and nothing is going to stand in his way. Sometimes it takes a while for a song to marinate, but not with this. Speaking of love, the lyrics are poignant, thought-provoking, completely relatable and uninhibited. Other tracks with outstanding vocal performances are “Comedown” and the EP’s closing track, “Freeze”.
In between, Xavier seems to have opened himself up to just create amazing music outside of the box like “Whistle Go” and “Magic”, crossing rock and pop with a strong urban edge. This EP is Xavier White showcasing his most raw natural talent. The album is brave and honest as he holds things down to basics and brings his soulful style and his raw voice to the lyrics of love and loss.
Every song tells a story about what he is feeling and his voice changes from an angry rough and randy character, into his beautiful falsetto and back to his gravely sexy sound. It is amazing to listen to the characters that emerge from song to song.
I will say that if you are in a kind of reflective mood, stick this EP on and close your eyes. It really is a stunning showcase of what Xavier is capable of. Producers and record labels usually determine what music is for the markets. For them it is a business. Producers hardly produce for artistic reasons, but more for commercial ones; they don’t produce music, they produce profitable products. But here on “Our Last Memories”, both producer Lucas Hass and executive producer Angelksion, have allowed Xavier White’s artistic talent to shine through without losing any commercial appeal.
Xavier is able to put so much soul into his songs that you can’t help but be drawn to them. Each one of the tracks on “Our Last Memories” feels like a personal statement or a journey that he has gone through. So if you have any preconceived notions of what you think this EP is going to be, let go of them and give this one a spin. Urban Pop music simply does not get much better than this!
