Mind-boggling and delicious, DARKMOOD delivers a myriad of unraveled stylistic forms; beauty, grace, and eerie transitions into the deep unknown. He is beyond most anything currently on the electronica market. Listen again and again, you will not get bored. “The Haunting” is unrivaled genius with a taste for the darkly unfathomable. As with his previous works, this album is yet another horror soundtrack and perfect as a film score.
From beginning to end, the album takes you on a mental journey that frankly, is hard to parallel without hallucinogenics. A powerful, mood-inducing ambient force of consciousness, DARKMOOD covers the whole field of the open mind, from staggering horror to introspective fear.
This album is very embracing of the most fearful portions of your being, flowing almost seamlessly into each terrorizing mood and environment contained within it. Creepy, goose-bump inducing, spooky, play it when you’re in a weird mood….supernatural, paranormal, mysterious and spiritual, it really gets your mind thinking about the unknown – especially if you read the song titles while listening to the crafted soundscapes.
If you enjoy hearing scary and suspense music that is written for films, be sure to check this out. Not tied to a particular film, here DARKMOOD has the freedom to explore the aural landscape and generate musical imagery, and he does it well.
DARKMOOD does not compose in the same way as, let’s say, would John Williams or Hans Zimmer, with their big orchestral arrangements, when it comes to scoring. He gets it done in a more intimate way. DARKMOOD has a specific sound to his music, using many effects and samples to create tension, anticipation and fear, over the ominously layered musical segments.
“The Haunting” presents a unique listening experience… a collection of 13 suspenseful, expressive, scary soundscapes that are also occasionally inspiring. This feels like an invitation to imagine movie scenes from the horror oeuvre, as well as films never ever made… not to mention the ones in your very own head.
With “The Haunting”, DARKMOOD has given us a soundtrack minus the movie. Let your horror movie imagination flow as you listen to these tracks because you might find some gold. It’s an epic score that bears all the earmarks of the majesty he’s given us with his previous releases.
DARKMOOD is a dark ethereal music soundtrack project created by musician Steve D. Montgomery (SDM, Portrait Black, Widow’s Offering and Notic Reign). To say that DARKMOOD knows the world of electronica and synth in the film score idiom is an understatement. If you’re a fan of horror soundtracks, you would do well to add this to your collection.
