The name “Tropical House” music came about back in 2014 when Australian DJ Thomas Jack coined the phrase as a form of joke, but it caught on and gained immense popularity in 2015, forging a series of exponents since, such as Kygo, Matoma, Lost Frequencies, Seeb and Klingande. The beats for these music often uses elements from Caribbean music particularly Reggae, Dancehall and Soca to get a more mellow island vibe. In recent times Tropical House has been infiltrating mainstream music in a massive way, annoying many Dancehall prophets who say those cool sounds belong to their genre. An 18-year-old beatmaker from Nigeria called Kidd Cocø, who began creating music from an early age, has put the axe to rest in his own way. He has just released the track entitled “There”, which blends the influences of both Tropical House and Dancehall.
“There” is a single that reflects the humble and simple philosophy of a talented young producer. The talented 18-year-old Nigerian is embracing the next challenge in his young career by proudly releasing this body of work which strikes a perfect balance between the globally acclaimed sound of current hit singles and new experimental creativity.
The track takes us on an intimate journey. “There” is a delicate, sublime tune which certainly does not disappoint. The track is a feel-good tropical anthem with elements of sparkling synth tones, catchy marimba-like melodies, and distinct, sultry, and understated vocal harmonies.
The track uses the pure and simple ingredients of a trademark Tropical House production, but under the hood we have a Dancehall rhythm gently on the boil. Kidd Cocø kept true to the original Tropical House sound while exploring other elements which is a luxury afforded to those that choose to have the creative freedom of their own release.
“There”, in some instances almost resembles a post-club sound – a form of art and musical structure, which has become favorable amongst club and festival goers alike. This new age electronic music has been further supplemented by a wave of radio interest and pop crossovers, further dignifying its growing authority in the world map of music.
We’ve heard some great tracks over the last few months and “There” definitely among our favorites when it comes to creativity and diversification. The signature Tropical House sounds blend in perfectly with Kidd Cocø’s unique brand of composition. The whimsical production is fascinating and soothing, and easily captives the listener’s attention.
The track flows like a waterfall with the synth, rhythmic kick and bass sliding along with the delicious melodic chords. “There” creates a clear image and sound for a rising artist. To paint a picture for you, Kidd Cocø’s music is full of groovy airiness, that will make you want to throw on a backpack and hike down the road alongside white sandy beaches and cool blue water, with the sun picturesquely rising in the background.
