“So Sorry” is the 10th single release by the two seasoned industry professionals – Anthony Casuccio and Lana Marie, better known as the chart-topping indie outfit A&L. “After the success of our last single We Are Love, which was a ballad, we wanted to get back to our aggressive roots,” says Casuccio, the Grammy nominated engineer who powers the production behind A&L. The track channels the anger and realization that you are being played by a new lover. The powerhouse performance of the other half of A&L, Lana Marie, is a call to action and a warning to all players out there: “You break my heart, you better sleep with one eye open. You screwed with the wrong woman.” Adding to the success of A&L is Rich Smith who has been behind the drum kit since A&L’s 3rd release, Smith is a hard-hitting rock drummer who always puts song writing and band chemistry first. Another element that contributes to the A&L sound, is Matt Sunick, whose bass playing has been influenced by progressive roots. Matt gives A&L the groove and feel that they always strive to achieve.
Though rock music can often times be found stale from an over-saturated market and radio, A&L brings that rough around the edges live take urgency to the sound. “So Sorry” is a hard hitting song that showcases grand all-round musicianship, Anthony Casuccio’s screaming angular guitar work, and extraordinary vocal work by Lana Marie. Her burning and persuasive vocals will leave a haunting echo in listeners’ hearts, as she sings both confrontational and unapologetic lyrics over smashing drums and dirty guitars.
The melody driven groove gets retained in your mind long after listening. The idea that rock and roll is dead obviously isn’t known to A&L, “So Sorry” is proof that rock music with intelligence and emotion is not only plausible, but executable.
Lana is a stand out singer and front runner, offering the perfect blend of classic pop-rock vocals with rough around the edges snarling. She’s confident, driven and a talented artist that only helps to push the pleasantries of the band’s music.
Casuccio makes sure that the production quality is top notch on “So Sorry”. The sound is captured on all vocals and instruments, with great tone and appropriate frequency extension. The mix is artful with all elements being audible and aurally easy to follow.
The recording has tremendous punchiness too. The production achieves overall loudness, while staying within maximum headroom and not subtracting the music of any dynamic expression, by way of overdone compression. There is a vibrancy and honesty to this song – something heartfelt rather than manufactured.
“So Sorry” is an authentic rock track, and is unique to today’s Top 40-centered music scene. And even though there is plenty of rockin’ going on, A&L understand that most great songs rely on having something easily accessible to win people over.
So Lana makes sure the lead melody is highly identifiable, while the guitars are heavier, the bass is thumping, and the drumming is impeccable. Yes, A&L are back again, with even more aptitude and passion than ever before!
