Tommy Capretto is a house music DJ and Producer from the greater Philadelphia area. After launching his career in 2006, things moved to the next level in 2015 when Capretto accumulated releases via leading record labels, Universal Music, Capitol Records, Carrillo Music, Armada Music, Juicy Music, HoTL Records, and others. A reputation built on being a go-to producer for club hits, Capretto has also totaled a number of official remixes for artists including Beck, Niall Horan, Hailee Steinfeld, MNEK, Dragonette, and FLETCHER among others. Capretto’s music is supported by fellow global DJs Don Diablo, Laidback Luke, Oliver Heldens, Roger Sanchez, Robbie Rivera, BlasterJaxx, Thomas Gold, KRYDER, and many others. As a performing DJ, Capretto has played the gamut of A-listed Philadelphia nightclubs and festival events. The DJ/Producer has also hosted his own mixshows on WPTY-FM “Party 105” Long Island, “Beat 360” Washington D.C., “Strictly Dance Radio” Chicago, “Radio Danz” Miami and others.
Tommy Capretto’s latest release on the Carrillo Music label, is “Floss”. A track full of heavily swung kick drums, twisted synth motifs, rumbling bass tones, and song craft drenched in emotion. In fact, I think it is Capretto’s willingness to pour intense emotion into his music which is the key to his rise.
This is one of the records of the year for me. The way Capretto EQs the kick drum and puts the bassline on top is just state of the art. His synth licks on this piece are unmistakable, while the adlib spoken voice adds a deeper dynamic to the mix.
Tommy Capretto’s latest contribution to his discography continues to highlight his innovative productions, showing no bounds to his creativity. The universal message is a rolling, hypnotic groove with haunting angular synths that jump out of the backdrop and a strong sense of the unknown.
Capretto keeps his vision looking forward, not relying on the past to give his track context. Yet, even though he may be focusing ahead, he still relies on a chunky, nostalgic sounding beat, a fairly uncluttered arrangement and low-slung bass lines to get his message across. If you were looking for one of those no-bullshit, minimal roller-coaster house tracks for the summer, this is the one.
There’s nothing too fancy or overwhelming about this record, but it sounds phenomenal, because it’s as solid of a dance track as you can get. The kind you can let go on loop for almost an eternity without getting winded. Tommy Capretto has an ear that can take in all manner and styles of house music and a soul that can synthesize it into something special – stripped down, but banging.
“Floss” offers a compelling argument as to why Capretto is so celebrated in EDM circles, showing his undeniable renown as a club hit maker of sheer pedigree. This track is a reminder of why few, if any, can stand tall next to him on his chosen turf. “Floss” is essential stuff for the dancefloor!
