When asked about the inspiration for “Hey Girl” he explains, “I met Hailee Steinfeld at a vocal lesson. It was brief, but it was one of those moments. We made eye contact and it filled me with inspiration and excitement. So, the chorus lyric, I guess, is based on that interaction.”
In his songs, Only Child fuses elements of Pop, RnB, and Rap. Most recently, in April of 2020 he released his debut song and video for “Jayne”—a modern pop, power ballad that is currently establishing momentum on Spotify and YouTube.
Although he’s only in his early 20’s, he credits a dynamic range of musical influences. Only Child grew up in a household where he was surrounded by the great pop hits of the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s. While growing up in the 2000s, he acquired a deep appreciation and passion for urban pop and rap music.
Only Child is a singer, songwriter, musician, and producer. He penned every lyric, recorded and produced his two debut songs entirely himself. Both songs were mixed by three-time Grammy Award winner Robert Orton (Lady Gaga, Charli XCX, Lana Del Rey.)
