K-Blitz is a rapper/singer originally from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He moved first to Ontario and then to Edmonton, Alberta Canada in order to further his career. K-Blitz has been making music for 20 years, releasing multiple projects and featuring on radio rotation across Canada. The prolific artist has always challenged himself to give his fans new music on a frequent basis, including his New Sound Saturdays, where he released 52 songs in 52 weeks in 2015, as well as quarterly mixtapes. He won Prairie rap album of the year in 2016 at the Canadian Urban Music Awards and was nominated for Edmonton hip hop artist of the year in both 2018 and 2019.
Many artists, especially today, are often categorized and put into boxes that can be difficult for them to get out of. Fans and critics, admittedly including myself, tend to prematurely brand artists based on the content of their previous work. But one artist who is truly a beast entirely of his own is K-Blitz – the cat raps, sings and just simply brings head poppin’ fire!
His latest tracks “Toxic Love” and “Remix”, taken from his upcoming project “Paroxysm”, prove that a song can have some cleverness to it or even a more focused idea, than watered just down rap clichés and still be a banger. These tracks are completely juxtaposed in their differences, both lyrically and musically.
On “Toxic Love”, K-Blitz is smooth, melodic and flowing with the wind, while on “Remix”, he is brash, loud and aggressive, fitting the hard-hitting narrative with his gravelly vocal attack. What these songs prove, is that its’ production and flow that make a hit, not generic lyrics.
“Toxic Love” and “Remix” delivers dedicated music that primarily functions as a wind tunnel, blasting away inhibitions. It is totally exhilarating, and not just because K-Blitz’s frenzied, shapeshifting delivery and explosive, hair-trigger beats propel it forward from start to finish.
K-Blitz raps like he has a hurricane at his back. As with his previous work, K-Blitz ability to shift between flows and merge different styles is utterly mesmerizing. “Toxic Love” and “Remix” proves that beyond reasonable doubt.
The Canadian emcee rides the industrial beat on “Remix” with such an abrasive intensity. The way his flow relentlessly shifts on here, is pretty incredible, with this track in particular demonstrating his stylistic diversity as an emcee.
Listening to “Toxic Love”, on the other hand, feels like driving down the highway with the windows down and wind in your hair and throwing your ass in a circle for maximum booty-bass impact. The track rides a trunk-rattling bass line, which prompts a steady involuntary head nod.
Both these aforementioned tracks flexes diversity in flow, style, and delivery, all while playing with clever bars and meaningful sentiments. If K-Blitz isn’t in your rotation, you’re sleeping!
