Cris Marshall is an American Country Music Artist raised in a musical home, the small town of Haslet, Texas. He received his first drum set from his father at the age of two and by 8 he was playing his first guitar. In his teens, and alongside his dad, Cris began performing at some of Dallas/Fort Worth’s most well-known music venues. A singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer, Cris also launched his very own home studio when he was 18, recording artists and bands all over Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. However his passion for writing and performing never subsided during this time, as he continued to compose original songs. Happily married and blessed with a daughter, Cris is now focused on the release of his upcoming debut album.
I need variety in my music. To earn 5 stars, this has to happen. Almost non-stop listening to a disc because I just can’t get enough of it. This album by Cris Marshall is full of songs that you cannot get out of your head, from start to finish. Chris is a great writer and he knows a good song and how its structured mechanics work.
The fact that he is such an accomplished guitarist who lays down some hook-laden tracks helps his cause too. The performances all throughout the album, both musically and vocally, are outstanding. This is what I call, ‘HCC’ or rather “hybrid contemporary country”, folks.
It takes the best of country’s roots along with a lot of pop and rock influence and blends it all together to make Chris’ unique brand of music. Music lovers of any genre can appreciate an effort like this. This is a cohesive recording from start to finish and isn’t a record that’s just a few good songs with filler wrapped around it.
I can see this album becoming an award-winning project and at a time when artists just make the same record over and over and get people to buy and play their records, Cris Marshall strives to make something new and interesting.
Listening to this album, it becomes clear that Cris has got a canny awareness of what it takes to make a hit record in today’s musical climate. There is no doubt that on this recording, he has tapped into the source of sure-fire high rotation radio hits.
In doing so, whilst transcending most of the usual narrow range of Nashville lyrical and stylistic touchstones, he will no doubt manage to draw from a wide range of listeners. What results is a lushly produced suite of songs that hint at boundary pushing.
The music will ensure he hooks as wide an audience as possible. The clever meshing of ‘everyman’ priorities in the songs will be the key to its popularity – and it has to be said, it is an irresistible piece of country-pop crossover confection.
Watch this space for the album title, track listing, musical credits and release date, as soon as it is officially made public. In the meantime take note of the name – Cris Marshall.
