RAHM – “Something Different” – Ardent and lush sounding

The single “Something Different” by singer-songwriter RAHM, was produced by Yarden Ashkenazi and Dor Roeh, and features the female vocalist Shany Oshri. A software engineer, RAHM wrote the song for his wife, Anat Brown who also appears on the cover artwork, which was done by Victoria Manashirov (Photography) and Itzhak Holyland (Graphics). This is one of those songs that has some sort of spark, a creative stamp that when you listen to it, you can tell something wonderful just happened in your presence. Yes, it’s like an experience unto its own.

RAHM has a lovely lilting voice, a light instrumental touch, and a casual flair for drama. When he slows down to deliver a line like “There’s something different in your eyes tonight,” he makes the observation hit with a punch while barely lifting his voice beyond a conversational whisper.

The downtempo genre of music is quite possibly the most relaxing genre of music ever created. Add to it, RAHM’s pastoral vocal tones and Shany Osri’s higher rising ethereal interludes, and you have a song dynamically captivating, without ever turning towards bombast.

The result is a song unlike anything you’ll hear on mainstream radio, and one that is saturated in a pool of exciting ideas and musical directions. It’s at once organic sounding, then thoroughly electronic – at times stripped down, and at others fully orchestrated. Ardent and lush sounding choir-like harmonies also permeate the arrangement.

Firmly entrenched in mellow and smooth tones, “Something Different” stimulates each of our senses with an atmosphere that oozes with dreamy, yet resonant instrumentation. This is a song that is defined by its combination of breathtaking vocals, harmony and hypnotic electronic elements.

RAHM’s voice is at the forefront of the music, dictating its tempo, guiding its sway, and ultimately contributing to the success of the tracks other qualities – a delectable melody and incredibly memorable choral sequences. RAHM’s lyrics are literate, his outlook is optimistic, laid back, romantic and personal.

“Something Different” is a soft and subtle record in essence. Throughout, RAHM gently builds layers of suave sound, and additional choral uplifts – all managing to add an extra dimension to RAHM’s emotional lyrics, which is a cornerstone of the track.

The singer-songwriter’s words of enduring devotion speak to the track’s larger theme of the multi-faceted power of love. What this song accomplishes so beautifully, is a portrait of affection and empathy as inseparable requisites for love. Aspects that serve to illuminate the fullness of devotion. RAHM’s serene depictions of romantic love are powerful in their reserve.

From all perspectives, the crystalline grace of “Something Different” comes from understated genius. It highlights the power of production in the formation of the artist’s oeuvre, while maintaining a sense of wholesomeness and introspective honesty, encouraging respect for the recording in its entirety as exactly what it was intended to be: pure, timeless songwriting. This is music for anyone with a heartbeat and a soul.
