Snagev is a breakout music producer that is currently based in Los Angeles, California. He is known for his unique pop and hip-hop sound and his vegan lifestyle, which he incorporates in his lyrics and music. Snagev is the founder of the producer collective known as Bad Vegans, which he founded in late-2018. The collective first gained massive attention with the release of their single “Neon Lights” which has garnered around half a million on-demand streams on Spotify. The group’s entire discography and collaborations have gained them millions of streams in 2021 and they plan to continue to go stronger in 2022.
Aside from working with Bad Vegans, Snagev also is working on his new debut documentary titled “Media and The Mind (2022)” which will feature a unique soundtrack with its release. Snagev claims that the film will highlight how social media affects the brain and how it could potentially have positive and negative effects. Although Snagev just turned 19 this year, he has no plans of slowing down. In fact, he will release his new EP titled “Snagev, Vol, 2” next week, which will feature new music from his documentary as well as some sentimental tracks and sounds.
We had the opportunity to ask Snagev some questions over the phone:
What’s your name?
I go by Snagev, which is a palindrome for vegans, the second word of my producer collective, Bad Vegans.
Where are you from?
I’m from Los Angeles, California, and have lived here my entire life so far.
How old are you?
I turned 19 this year, which means I recently graduated high school.
When did you start making music?
I started making music in my sophomore year of high school and published my first body of work in late 2018 under the name Bad Vegans. I received a lot of support on that project, so I continued to push out more projects later in the year.
How serious are you about your career?
I am very serious about my career now that I have garnered millions of streams on Spotify and other platforms, such as Apple Music and TIDAL. I’m currently at university, trying to provide the best possible music for my fans and supporters while being a full-time student.
Have you ever thought about quitting music?
At times, I have to admit yes. This was mainly due to the fact that I was unsure of whether I could balance producing music and being a student full-time. However, I decided that it was something I wished to pursue so I am continuing to still work at it.
Who inspires you the most?
My other members in my collective, as well as my friends. They have supported what I have been doing since day one, which is very important to have as an artist.
What got you into making music?
I was obsessed with music in my early teens, and knew it was something I wanted to contribute to artistically. This is why I have been continuing to put out projects and EPs for my fans. I actually started working with my first DAW at around age 11, and my friends said that it was something I had to pursue.
Who is your favorite producer?
To be honest, I don’t have a favorite producer, I just like too many. I think that the producers who fuse melodic pop and hip hop are some that I look up to and get inspiration from.
What is one of your best songs/beats?
I would say that one of my favorite songs is “Lost in the Desert” because it fuses the elements of hip-hop and melodic pop quite nicely. It has a very chill vibe to it, as well as an inspirational atmospheric sound. Another one of my favorite songs is “La Vegana Mala” because of the message. I wrote the lyrics with clever wordplay and style.
Are you signed to a record or label?
I am not signed to a record label because I wish to remain independent for now, just because of the flexibility. However, I’m not opposed to being signed, I just want to find the right distribution that is right for my brand.
Have you ever performed?
I have performed at several local venues, however it hasn’t been anything too serious. I hope to work my way up so I can hopefully perform at major festivals and events.
Who would you most likely collaborate with?
I want to collaborate with other popular YouTubers, and at the top of my list would be PewDiePie. I hope to make a track or instrumental for him in the future, although it’s a lofty goal to achieve.
If you could open for any artist who would it be?
I would want to open for Ed Sheeran, because he is one of my biggest inspirations. It would be very difficult to set the event up though, so I would need a lot more exposure. However, I’m confident that with effort and a strong mindset, anything is possible.
What’s next for you?
I have a lot of projects planned in the near future. I’m planning on releasing an EP next week on Snagev, as well as releasing an album titled VeganVibes III with collaboration with Bad Vegans on the same day. Hopefully the fans will love it, as I plan to also release a deluxe edition as well. Also, as mentioned before, I’m planning on composing an original soundtrack for my upcoming documentary titled “Media and The Mind” which is set to release in 2022.
